Bargirls rarely show their Thai man on social media, even in their private Facebook accounts. It's much more common for a bargirl to show their latest Farang customer than a Thai boyfriend.

Not really amazing, as they usually use social media for 'work' and don't want to advertise the fact that they have a boyfriend/husband/girlfriend.

Play numbers. This causes small losses which add up over time.

 

Buy and sell gold. Again, repeated transactions for the same piece of gold generate big losses over time.

 

Have Thai boyfriend. The biggest expense.

 

If a lady does all three, she will be broke at the end of every month.

Bargirls tend to have something like a taxi meter in their heads. They also have a working concept of Opportunity Cost.

 

I am well aware, therefore, when I am with a bargirl that she is constantly calculating how much money I am giving vs time spent with me vs how much she might be making back in the bar.

 

Bar income is not just based on fee for service, but the possibility that she might hook a sponsor who would give her money for nothing. But she can't get a sponsor if she is with a non-sponsoring customer.

 

So, its a complex calculation, but many do it all the time. More so, bargirls who marry customers.

 

Unfortunately, the more you pay, the more money they think their time is worth.

When bargirls have "man down", ie a bargirl passed out drunk, they shout at her. Especially if she is worshipping the porcelein goddess. Nothing more fun than being abused by bargirls as you throw up.

I dunno, some ladies can endure decades working bar in Pattaya. Of course, they don't save a dime.

 

One problem is that Thai men are better at extracting cash from ladies than bargirls are from customers. One very experienced lady has a kik in Udon Thani, he sells her cows when he needs money. But the cows stay on his farm and when his Thai girlfriend finally cuts him off from the bargirl, the cows will disappear.

Lots of bargirls might work 10 years, and end up flat broke, for the reasons mentioned above.

 

But, there is some segment who are on drugs or mentally ill, and so are quasi-functional in life. They can hold up in a bar, but outside the bar, things get dicey.

 

Even if you don't hang out with them, there are warning signs like frequent changing of their bar (yeah, ladies will move around during Low Season to find a bar with customers, but not so much in High Season). And they do no-shows a lot.

 

When they get too old or too whacked out to find customers, things get sad. If they are lucky, they can find a man to take care of them.
