Also, even on dating sites, oftentimes you see the girl either eating in pics (Thai food), or stating that she 'loves eating'...

The average farang is unfit. Some Thais are fit, some unfit.

Okay, so they're eating more but not sure we can ignore the convenience food aspect, i.e. Grab and 7-Eleven etc, whereas previously they'd have jumped on the motorbike and at least walked twenty metres to fetch the food from the vendor, now it's delivered to the door. ????

Lao diet is similar to Isaan but be less sugar. Lots of these people are lacking in minerals.

you only  have to look at the females on stickmans webpage to see theyre all wrong size for bgs

i also imagine the lack of fast food and sugar plays a huge role. it is standard practice now put loads of sugar in many a thai food as well. kao phad sugar for example.

laos and viet nam both almost void of fast food in the western sense.

Does it really matter if people are fat or skinny? People live longer.

There’s fitness which is best. But second best is moving a fair bit and being active. Worst of course is being mostly immobile fingering your mobile phone all day and eating salty fatty stuff. Which a fair few seem to do.

Are people more happy in Lao?

generally do fatter people carry more medical costs over a life time ?

with simple diet and exercise most overweight people could lose any excess weight and live much healthier and even longer.

You see a lot walking along with a sugar drink in their hand. Not sure if that contributes.

Ride motorbike to buy them. Main factor i think. Empty calories.

I think people here eat a lot more meat (pork) than they used to when they were poorer.

Plus, too much sugar.

Nothing wrong with salty fatty stuff. I lost 15 kg eating lashings of cheese, which is 35 - 40% fat.

OTOH, I avoided sugar, processed food, and high carbohydrate vegetables and grains, which all hydrolyze in the stomach to sugars.

When I did that, my liver commenced burning fat instead of sugar, hence the weight loss.

My wife and I visited Lao in 2011 and the residents didn't appear to be the happiest nation on earth and I can't blame them.

I'm glad we visited to see the other side of the river, but won't be going back.

I would not say I am skinny, just normal BMI.

Definitely healthier to be skinny or normal weight. 15 kg overweight is 15 kg more the body organs - heart, lungs etc. have to carry around.

Healthier is happier IME.

Is longer more appealing than better? Personally I will enjoy what I enjoy and have no desire whatsoever to live "longer".

I think they are.

They are on average much fitter and healthier than obese people.

They are more mobile and can enjoy outdoor activities, exercise and have less joint problems.

They are considered my mostt to be more attractive than overweight people, so will have higher self esteem.

They can look at fat people and be glad they don't look like them.

Also, they save a lot of money by not spending it on excessive amounts of junk food and cakes or mobility scooters.

Some of my elderly (50+) neighbors are skin and bone as they always were.

They don't get much out of the village, no donuts, no pizza, no fatty icecream, no deep fried fat dripping chicken, no hypersweet drinks etc.etc.etc.

They simply don't have the money for all that.

Easy explains why they are still slim like the even poorer Laos fellows (who have basically the same lifestyle).

They have no need for exercise. One neighbor 70+ is on the fields daily and works in the sweltering sun. No treadmills after work.

Look at the world center of fattys and find the answers. Easy.
