Senate panel to study Move Forward party’s PM candidate

A senate committee set up a working panel on Thursday to study controversial issues related to Move Forward’s leader and potential prime minister Pita Limjaroenrat, including his anti-establishment position.

 

The Senate committee on political development and public participation will complete its work in one month and submit the results to the Election Commission (EC), said committee member Chadej Insawang.

 

Pita’s party won the largest share of parliamentary seats in the recent general election, making him eligible to be the country’s prime minister.

 

He is in the process of forming a coalition to govern, which could amass a voting bloc of 313 votes in the House. He needs 376 members in a joint sitting to vote for him to become the prime minister.

 

Pita is facing another obstacle on his path to the premiership, as the EC is investigating an allegation that Pita holds 42,000 shares in ITV Plc, which is a media firm. The Constitution prohibits owners or shareholders of media firms from running for political office.

So democracy in Thailand and the will of the people comes down to a panel of paid off and planted military elitist, royalist in the Senate through a fraudulant constitution put forward by a general who staged a coup and corrupted an election to retain power.

I can see few positives here other than the fact many of the establishment are utter cowards and the thought of themselves dangling from a lamppost might rein in their zeal, self preservation will do that!

I suspect that PT are hoping that the senate will reject MF, and are already making plans to 'join hands' with Anutin & others when the inevitable happens.

And so begins the witch hunt or; the cupboard skeleton hunt if you like.

I imagine the highest echelons of most societies have those; therefore it would be prudent to assume MF are quite clued up on such matters. 

Tit for tat (behind closed doors of course) is likely what follows.

Better we have a few beers (for those who partake) and relax.

It'll make good viewing either way....exciting times.

I really, really think you are wrong. All the parties against the last junta are much stronger together and I don't think joining hands with Anutin and co is at likely at this time. Come to think of it I don't think it's possible to hold hands with a snake...

Some of the Thai political class ain't the smartest or most sensible of people but to join hands with the establishment would be political suicide, really hope they don't <deleted> everything up at this stage, I hope I'm right but on past performance I wouldn't bet my pension on it but I live in hope....

From what I have heard from MF, there is no plan to completely scrap all the existing LM laws. What they want is to moderate them so that they can not be used as a political weapon or to put people behind bars with draconian sentences.

 

In a similar vein it would be very beneficial to give the defamation law an overhaul so that the guilty are stripped of its protection.

There is nothing wrong with the monarchy. the only thing they want to do is stop the abusing of section 112..They are worried for nothing. All branches are happy with the new elections, only a few 250 senators don't like it that their power is being limited now and are hiding behind a institution... Come  on people give them a chance please...

If you do a search in the other newspaper for 2017 constitution, you will find what the changes after the referendum exactly were.

Leave the monarchy is fine, as long as they can 'fine tune' section 112.

Its reach is too long, and vague in application, anybody can raise a charge, and the punishments are waaaaaaay too severe.

It was to be expected......it is SOP.

 

Everybody opposing the Old Order knew that before they commenced operations.

 

The only question of any import is "How far will the New Movement go to counter what they knew would be the response of the Old Order?"

 

THAT is the only question that should be troubling you.......because the  intensity of the resistance/pushback, by the New Movement, is what is going to determine how unpleasant life gets for people living in Thailand.

 

Do you think they have not planned?

 

If you are living in Thailand, that  is what should concern you.

 

Or do you suppose the the New Movement is just going to accept the ruling/judgement of a "nexus" which now, in the eyes of the majority, is considered to totally illegitimate and unworthy?

 

Why would they bother to tread the path if they were/are going to fold at such a level.?

 

I think many contributors are living in denial.......because the potential reality is too terrible for them to contemplate.

 

They like to comfort themselves that Thailand is a special case among the surrounding countries.......but it isn't.

If the Senators had any political morality to see democracy finally emerge, they should all resign. Let a new Senate be developed under the tutelage of the MFP.

Those 42,000 shares don't belong to Pita........he borrowed them from a friend. That explanation has been used before so why not here. ????
