Move Forward party optimistic of positive response from senators

A combined total of 313 votes in the House are sufficient for the coalition partners, led by Move Forward, to form a stable government and the party is confident that senators will have positive opinion of the party once they see its memorandum of understanding (MoU), said Chaithawat Tulathong, Move Forward party secretary-general.

 

In his capacity as the government formation manger, Chaithawat said he has held discussions with a group of senators, a number of whom have expressed concerns over the Move Forward party’s policies and hope that the new government will not cause any more political conflict.

 

He claimed that, after the discussions, the senators have a better understanding and are positive about the Move Forward party.

and there is the exact problem - the people voted in an election and the winners need the unelected senate permission to run the country - sorry but the democracy handbook doesn't have that page

Proof that their vote is not a personal vote, more of a collective group decision to decide who gets into power.

It doesn't matter at all what the people voted. The last two democratically elected governments were removed as the 'wrong' party won (I'm discounting the last election before this, held under new rules introduced by the military). So even though the new broom has managed to beat the odds by garnering enough votes, it might well ultimately mean nothing other than more riots on the streets when the legitimately elected government is banned from taking power by the elites. As it always has been. I suppose TAT could spin the riots as a tourist attraction.

And lets hope that MFP have listened to the sensible advice given to them, about their attitude. Stop acting like spoilt brats and focus on things that affect the people; the economy, daily living costs, policies to attract inward investment and regional employment.

The senate only has another year to run or there abouts so it's going to be interesting. Again if they vote against Pita then there are two options as I see it. Phue Thai jumps and forms their own coalition which IMO will not be good for them at the next election (meant to be signing a memorandum of understanding with MFP today) or a minority govt is put in place in which case a vote of no confidence will be put foward on day one of parliament. This will be successful because the opposition will have a majority in the House of Reps where the Senators have no vote apart from electing the PM. The minority govt. will then have to be dissolved leading to a new election or a move by the army.

it is up to each party to decide who their leader is, they are all elected by the people and have won their seats - nobody in the UK can serve as an MP or PM unless they win their seat
