5yr applied on 20 June 2017, expired 12 March 2023.

(latest until 2028)

Be it one month, be it three months (not sure) but definitely you can go before expiry with the temporary.

 

I had a car license from the beginning (2011).

Did the motorcycle license from scratch (incl. "driving test").

Recently acquired my third renewal, (now six years validity).

Rules are constantly changing, wanting the wife’s ID, the pink card or immigration residency letter, had neither, but still got both licences.

I now have the Pink card thanks to the DLT and it’s a very useful addition to the Yellow book.

My office told me they did not want the pink card, only passport.

So at Bang Lamung (pattaya) DLT  can I use the pink ID card or the yellow book instead of getting a immigration residence letter to renew driver's licenses?

I would take both, they asked for everything at my dlt.

Inconsistency of requirements for any application here is the norm

Well the reality is they will take a COR only, making taking the pink card/yellow book  as well unnecessary. As to his question.... I have heard both yes and no answers!

There is a license renewal office [ forgot the name] just after Diamond coffee shop and 100 meters before Friendship on S.Pattaya road that i used for my renewal a couple of years back..Very good inexpensive service.

Go and do it yourself without lining the pockets of some agency.

I did mine yesterday and was out of there in an hour and half with two new 5 year licenses. A real doddle to do.

I spotted a few agents with their clients, who by the way still have to be there and do what we did. Unless you're a complete numpty or don't have transport then why use an agent.

 

I would also add how well organised it all was up there. Hats off to the Thais who work there.

Things might be a bit busier in high season but right now do it yourself.

Documents required
Copies of front and back of existing licence.
copy of passport, visa, extension pages.
it says copy of lease but they said not needed.
Medical certificate from any clinic cost 200Baht

Residence letter from immigration.
You must go in person to make an appointment, you cannot do online on line. You go back on the day they advise its as simple as that. If you go after your license expires you get 6 years not five.

Do the online training video; have to watch all as there are questions during the video ( they are easy ).

The only tests were colour, guy had controller and lit up traffic sign and you told him the colour, then reaction test, press accelerator and when red light comes on press brake pedal, both very easy.

Yes, 1 original and 1 copy is accepted.

 

This goes for both the medical certificate and the residence certificate.

The Pattaya City Expats Club has the following on their website regarding getting a Residence Certificate form Pattaya Immigration Office:

Anyone have be able to use their yellow tabien baan in place of the residence certificate ?

Before the 2022 change, Bang Lamung office say its was ok if i also provide the confirmation from the house owner (with a signed copy of the blue tabien baan).
Im actualy out of Thailand, so its hard for me to ask them at this moment, and my licence will expire a month before my return, so i will have to "rush" there when im back.

Go one day after and you get 5yrs 364 days...... number reduces the further past your birth date you renew.

I went to MOTS to renew my 5 year motorbike licence, Great service.

Renewed my 5 year license last week.

Had to goto DLT to make an appointment in person first.

Documents needed on appointment day:

1. Passport, original and copies of photo and visa pages.

2. Driver license, original and copy of front and back.

3. Residency cert from Jomtein , original and  copy if you also renew motorbike license.

4. medical cert.

5. Print out of the proof of the online class completion.

Took 40 minutes to get the new license.

I went there the day after my birthday, my new license expires on my birthday in 2029.

They seem to process the car and motorcycle licenses separately. If you renewed both licenses, was 2 sets of passport copies needed, one for the car and one for the motorcycle? Did the medical certificate need to be copied for the second license?

From my experience, yes two sets of documents were required, meaning two sets of passport copies. Medical cert can't be copied, both had to be original . Residency cert can be a copy for the second set. There are shops across the street if you needed to copy documents.

Yes, I was sent off to get more copies there, and when I got back I was told I had missed the allocation and would be in the afternoon shift. Great fun.
