Bkk Brian Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Looks like this is going to drag on till after the presidential elections, all explained well in the article below just published: Special counsel Jack Smith requests delay in Trump classified documents trial Special counsel Jack Smith has requested a delay in the classified and sensitive documents trial of former President Trump from August to December. Smith on Friday filed a request for the start date for the trial be set for Dec. 11, which would be about four months after the initial Aug. 14 date that Judge Aileen Cannon set on Tuesday. The filing notes that the case will require Trump’s counsel to receive interim security clearances because the case concerns classified information, which will require additional time for the counsel to review and process the evidence that the government has gathered. https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4065600-jack-smith-requests-delay-in-trump-classified-documents-trial

Popular Post eisfeld Posted June 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2023 One way you can spot if someone has no defense is when they are talking about unrelated things. When they are attacking the accuser and when they are trying to paint themselves as a good person. That's all Trump said: It's not true. I'm innocent. They are such bad people. It's just election interference. I am soooo popular, got so many votes. Look at me. We need to stop them. Not a single argument of why he is actually not guilty of what he was accused of in the indictment. 1 2

ThailandRyan Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 It just keeps getting better for the Indicted former Potus. He has dug the whole even deeper. “That’s not the law”: Legal experts say Trump’s new defense shows he’s “in for a world of trouble” (msn.com) Former President Donald Trump claimed on Saturday that he had the "absolute right" to keep documents after leaving the White House but legal experts say that defense won't hold up in court. Trump, who pleaded not guilty earlier this month to 37 charges related to his handling of classified documents, has repeatedly claimed that he had the right to take the documents under the Presidential Records Act, which legal experts have refuted. Trump reiterated his defense during a speech at the Faith & Freedom Coalition's annual conference on Saturday."Whatever documents a president decides to take with him, he has the absolute right to take them," Trump claimed. 1
Popular Post ThailandRyan Posted June 27, 2023 Popular Post Posted June 27, 2023 Has he even looked at the laws that he signed making the laws stricter..... Trump blows hole in stolen document defense with 'bonkers' boast: analyst (msn.com) Writing that Trump -- or whoever wrote his speech -- should have read past the second paragraph where the Times' Michael Shear wrote, "Asking nicely is about all they [the National Archives] can do,” Benen noted there was much more to the story which went on to report, "that while NARA doesn’t have an ability to enforce its requests, after 'asking nicely,' Archives officials can turn to the Justice Department to ensure that laws are properly enforced. NARA can't require people to follow the law, but prosecutors can." "In other words, Trump told the public that under existing federal law, according to the New York Times, the Archives can merely request that former presidents please follow the law — and if they refuse, NARA simply has to accept and tolerate the intransigence, slinking away in disappointment. But that’s bonkers. Not only is this at odds with how law enforcement works, it’s largely the opposite of what the newspaper actually reported," Benen wrote before bluntly pointing out that an "absolute right” to ignore laws does not exist. 3 1

Trump ‘Standing Order’ to Declassify Not Found by DOJ, Intelligence Agency A “standing order” that former President Donald Trump has claimed authorized him to instantly declassify documents removed from the Oval Office could not be found by either the Justice Department or Office of Director of National Intelligence. The disclosure by the agencies was made in response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed last August by Bloomberg News, which sued ODNI and the Justice Department’s national security division for a copy of Trump’s so-called standing order — if one existed. It might fly with his underlings and followers but not in a court of law. 3 1 2

Part of a more in-depth article which appeared in the NZ Herald and NY Times.... Donald Trump can lay claim to the title of most prodigious liar in the history of the presidency. This challenges commonplace beliefs about the American political system. How could such a deceitful and duplicitous figure win the White House in the first place and then retain the loyalty of so many voters after his endless lies were exposed? George Edwards, a political scientist at Texas A&M and a retired editor of Presidential Studies Quarterly, states the case bluntly: “Donald Trump tells more untruths than any previous president.” What’s more, “There is no one that is a close second.” The reason he still has his supporters is that many people are angry about how they have been left behind in the current economic climate, especially the poorly educated Schweitzer told the magazine The Greater Good in 2017. “Trump has tapped into that anger, and he is trusted because he professes to feel angry about the same things.” Trump, Schweitzer said, “has created a siege-like mentality. Foreign countries are out to get us; the media is out to get him. This is a rallying cry that bonds people together. Finally, The belief that Donald Trump was denied the White House in 2020 because of Democratic Party fraud is arguably the greatest challenge to the legitimacy of the federal government since the Civil War, if not in American history. It is hard to think of a time when nearly two-fifths of Americans seemed honestly to believe that the man in the White House is there because of theft. Sad but unfortunately true. Dumb and Dumber springs to mind. 2 1

'More chickens coming home to roost': Legal experts pounce on Trump over bombshell Arizona phone call report - Raw Story - Celebrating 19 Years of Independent Journalism A report from the Washington Post that Donald Trump reportedly called then-Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) and tried to pressure him to overturn the 2020 presidential election results set off a flurry of commentary on Saturday, with many observers saying the DOJ has another investigation to launch if it hasn't already. According to the the bombshell report, not only did the then-president make a call, he also "repeatedly" attempted to get the Vice President Mike Pence to join in on the pressure campaign and that Pence did call but did not press the issue. The Post reported that a Ducey donor recalled the Arizona GOP lawmaker talking about the call at a luncheon, with the report adding, "The account was confirmed by others aware of the call. Ducey told the donor he was surprised that special counsel Jack Smith’s team had not inquired about his phone calls with Trump and Pence as part of the Justice Department’s investigation into the former president’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election, the donor said." 2 1
