Germany has agreed to extend another $1.4 billion overall for Holocaust survivors around the globe for the coming year.

The organization that handles claims on behalf of Jews who suffered under the Nazis said Thursday that Germany has agreed to extend another $1.4 billion (1.29 billion euros) overall for Holocaust survivors around the globe for the coming year.

The compensation was negotiated with Germany’s finance ministry and includes $888.9 million to provide home care and supportive services for frail and vulnerable Holocaust survivors.

Additionally, increases of $175 million to symbolic payments of the Hardship Fund Supplemental program have been achieved, impacting more than 128,000 Holocaust survivors globally, according to the New York-based Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, also referred to as the Claims Conference

I will add that definition of a holocaust survivor can be difficult. 

 

It is definitely not only death camp survivors. 

 

Also yes of course as they are all old now it won't be very many years until there are none.

The atrocities committed by the Germans during that period should never be forgotten.

 

It's also a good reminder for those who casually throw the term "Nazi" around to show a little more respect to the real victims of the Nazi regime.

Sorry if modern people are parading around in Nazi kit, seig heiling, and promoting murderous hatred against the same historical targets they are still Nazis. Not in that historical regime but still Nazis.

 

I would agree not to label non Nazi Identifying fascists as Nazis though.

A report to be issued this spring by The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany, the organization that annually negotiates with Germany for Holocaust reparations, will estimate that just 50,000 Holocaust survivors remain in the United States.

It’s a very good reason to understand precisely what fascism is and the means by which the Nazis came to power and ‘justified’ their atrocities.

We know the methods and means of the Nazis, and people very rightly call out these when they show up in modern political discourse.
