Krabi official caught demanding 100,000 baht fee for hotel license renewal

The Provincial Governor of Krabi removed the Permanent Secretary of the Mueang Krabi district from her position after she was accused of demanding 100,000 baht from a hotel in the province in exchange for an operating license.

 

The Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) reported to news agencies that the commission received a complaint from the owner of a hotel in the Ao Nang sub-district. The hotel had been unable to obtain the necessary permit and operating license, despite having submitted all the required documents several months before.

 

The hotel owner explained to the police that he submitted the necessary documents for the license renewal and sought approval for additional rooms but did not receive the permits after several months passed.

 

In May, the accused official, 42 year old Thikaporn Kongmuen, contacted the hotel and informed that the hotel that it needed to pay 100,00 baht in exchange for the license. Thikaporn told the hotel owner to hand the money directly to her, otherwise, she would not submit the documents to the higher-ranking officer. The hotel owner refused and filed a complaint with the PACC.

well know  no surprises there, bribery goes on everywhere - a 12 month extention without funds in the bank costs anywhere from b12k - b30k

If not then this will send a message to other bent officials that they are not immune to being caught.

To be fair, this is a removal based on allegations.

I could see placed on administrative leave (maybe this did occur but just incomplete journalism?) or moved temporarily to the Office of the PM without prejudice while an investigation proceeds to establish evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. 

What is the truth? An element that seems typically lacking in Thailand's investigatorial process.

go spend a day at jomtiem immigration and watch the agents that are there everyday or visit the agents offices  who openly offer to circumvent the rules in return for a nice payment for them to bribe the immigration officials....it would take less than a week to track down the offenders IF IF anybody really wanted to stop it....but u can bet that those whose job it is to stop it are also getting their cuts....

Just today I've been wondering if the same thing applies to never arresting those who operate the boats containing hundreds of people trying to illegally enter Europe. The 'refugees' pay thousands of dollars for the trip. To who? And how? With many thousands of passengers a year, how it it not possible to trace the money trail by questioning the passengers?

Actually there are voice clips from various days when she was asking for the money. The anti corruption commission are involved. It's not just an allegation
