Hi, looking for information on education visas.

I'm applying for an education visa at a legitimate language school and a bit worried about a load of COVID extensions in my passport.

The school says it won't be a problem but I'll be loosing alot of money if my visa gets rejected.

Any info would be much appreciated.thanks.

The school might be, but do all students attend and finish the proposed plan?

I guess thats why it is becoming harder to get ed visa

Are you a genuin student, or are you just abusing the system?

I think thats the question a immigration officer might ask!

Good luck

As I said I'm going to a legitimate school and not through an agent.

Yes I will be attending classes,as I'd be very silly not attending classes after paying alot of money.

Seems that the school is your agent.

There are couple of different tier level of schools for studing Thai language.

There is specific forum for that.

Not directly answers your question however this thread explains informal schools and has few posts from ubonjoe.

The funny thing is that if you don't wanna attend classes, you need to pay MORE money! ????

Thats probably true.

I was quoted some crazy prices for an education visa without lessons.

I think there's even a cooking school that offers an Education Visas ... but maybe in Bangkok, not Pattaya.

Might actually be fun to learn to cook some Thai food?

Yes I seen that advertised a while back.

If there was one in Pattaya 8d be interested.

The school has said I got to pay 5000 every 90 days at immigration, seems steep I thought all extensions inside of Thailand cost 1900?

Many legitimate language schools have options, attend classes or don't attend classes, with correspondingly different fees and procedures but the question of whether he is abusing the system is irrelevant to members here and to his question in the OP.

That is a big red flag. It suggests that the school has a bad reputation, and needs to grease the wheels to get extensions approved. If so, the school might well be on a blacklist Vientiane maintains. Non Ed visas for those schools are denied.

Appreciate that schools that offer lessons of some description can still be primarily visa mills that are viewed sceptically by immigration and embassies/consulates.

I've been to 3 schools and there's no mention of me having to leave and go to Vientiane.

They said I don't need to leave.

In that case, it seems that the school has sorted out a suitable arrangement with immigration and the ministry. Your previous immigration history will not be a factor.

The question was based on what an immigration officer would think and grant him a visa.

I heard at my school that the immigration is getting stricter with the ED visas in general, checking language skills upon return to the country.
Any reports of anyone being denied entry lately?

if you are worried about this - book fast track lane beforehand

How does that help?

You book fast track and you won't be quizzed by immigration for your language skills - Anyway you should learn as much as you can anyway

Fast tract is no different to other lanes.

Same scrutiny.

apparently some people cheat the system by studying chinese or japanese, which some schools offer and which immigration officials cant quiz you on.

How's that cheating the system? If the course has the Ministry of Education's approval, which is a requirement for obtaining a visa or extension based on studying, I'd say it's immigration's problem how they deal with "quizzing" those students.
