Assault and battery is what we call it in the west, where when people don't pay the bill you hold them until the cops arrive.

 You can call it what you like "in the west"  But this is not the "west" is it ?   Why are some people unable to accept that?  How much further "east" would this place need to be in order for people to realise that this is not the "west" and that rightly or wrongly things are done differently here.

O dear...yet another one! Do they think beer, bottles of vodka are free in Thailand? Seriously?

What gets into their dumb ass brains.??

Would you not think that they would keep their heads down and avoid any illegal activity for fear of being deported.?

You're in Thailand idiot....not the soft West where you'd have no problem getting off for fear of anything happening to yiu if deported.

He's Russian   I don't think Russia qualifies as "the soft west"

Did the BiB bother to quiz the bar owners as to why they were still open at 03:30 AM?

They did not have to as it is most likely their boss owns it......:thumbsup:

So you think this doesn’t happen in other countries?

How many times did he ring the bell?

They could call the police in such a situation. But if they are open after closing time - and cheating their customers - then it is understandable why they don't call the police.

Go-go bars are NOT the place to go if you want to be treated fairly when the bill comes. I'm still SMH that these places are allowed to exist with all the fleecing of customers that goes on.

The challenge people have is that they make 2 mistakes

1 they drink too much

2 they don't check their bill as it is put in the cup.

If  you don't follow those rules then you leave yourself open to high bill although we don't know how high the bill was.

Phew, good thing.

From the article:

"Pattaya police reminded gogo and nightclub owners to immediately call police if a customer refuses to pay a bill to avoid a further confrontation and to never, ever, under any circumstances, physically attack a customer."

It seems the security guards/bouncers don't listen to the cops, big surprise there?

Ever thought he was drunk?

Alcoholism is a disease, he is not 'stupid'.

Well, if he will play his cards right he would see something not less than $10K in compensations. It will take time, yes, but at the end the judge will be on his side.

It is amazing how some people think that there's no law and they are allowed to "punish" on their own.

PS: Unless some A--hole will scare him and tell that the best thing to do is "run-run-reu-reu". ^^^ so-called "volunteer".

I've been to plenty and never been fleeced.

These places wouldn't survive with the competition if they fleeced everyone.  The clubs make enough by charginging higher prices.

The GoGo bars that do fleece are owned by Russians.  They are fairly well known and avoided.

More than likely drinks were added to his bill that he didn't order.

so what to do if your final bill arrives and has drinks you didn't order, this has been going on for years, unfortunately all too often in WS too many times just be the customers to blame, shooting theselves in the foot - very soom WS will get such a bad name people will avoid it as i have done for years, a bad reputation is hard to get rid of once it's there - not so hard to earn

I'd avoid any possibility of the bill being padded by just settling the tab with the delivery of each drink ordered.

The padding of bills is not new and Walking Street is still here.

The "guessing game" continues:

he didn't pay for his booze;

he refused to pay for booze he didn't order;

he'd been cheated;

he insulted the owner;

he said something about guard's mother;

he violated waitress's private parts;

he said something about Putin while the owner was Russian oily-garkh;

the owner was instead Ukrainian relative to Babulinski;

the owner was %whoever% yet he personally hates Russians;

that was a gay go-go and ______________ (use your imagination).

But the actual story is simple: tourist got beaten by group of thai men. No matters what race, ethnicity or citizenship of the victim. Even ____________ (use your imagination again).

Bit unfair. So you would be cool with having your bill padded with extra drinks that you never ordered? which happens all the time. Better off paying as you go in these holes... or don't go altogether.

on Walking Street at 3:30 AM this morning

I've said this many times, if you can't get drunk and/or laid enough by 11pm you ain't trying hard enough.

Also, meth or coke makes you think you can stay up all night drinking with no consequences whatsoever.
