Man Bitten by Snake During Night Hike, Uses Folk Medicine to Survive
A man recently shared a harrowing experience on TikTok, after being bitten by a snake during a nighttime hike in the mountains, sparking widespread debate online. The man, identified as TikTok user @arunsrisuwan512, posted a video describing his ordeal after being bitten by a venomous green pit viper while searching for fish in the Banthat mountain range, Phatthalung. The video, which he called his "final clip from the trip," shows him using traditional survival methods passed down through his family to address the snake bite. The man explained that the snake bit him on his foot, causing immediate swelling. In response, he tied a vine-like plant above the bite and applied herbal remedies to the area. He also took painkillers to alleviate joint and leg pain, with the goal of making it down the mountain and getting to a hospital. In the clip, the man describes his injury: “The snake bit me on the back of my foot. The inner sole hasn’t swollen yet, but the outer side has. I used an herbal vine to tie around my ankle, applied some green oil, and took painkillers to reduce the pain. I just need to walk home first, then I’ll head to the hospital.” He recounted that the incident occurred after he had finished setting up fishing traps and was preparing for the next activity when the snake struck. He was later treated at the hospital for seven days before being discharged to recover at home. Once the video went viral, many netizens voiced their concerns, with some warning against his use of a tight vine around the ankle, a traditional remedy for snake bites. Commenters advised that this method can worsen the injury, increasing the risk of severe tissue damage. Several users suggested immobilising the bitten area instead of tying it off to prevent further harm. One commenter shared a personal story: “Tying the area is outdated and dangerous knowledge. My younger sibling was once bitten by a cobra. What made it worse was the necrosis caused by tying the leg, leading to surgery to remove dead tissue and replace it with healthy tissue from the thigh. It was a painful experience, especially for a five-year-old child.” The man who posted the video is known to be a descendant of a family of traditional healers, specializing in snake bite treatments passed down through generations. Elderly Woman Abducted from Hospital: Sister Appeals for Help
A 63-year-old woman, Khunlin Jokklad, urgently reported to police on September 28, that her 70-year-old sister, Amphon Jokklad, has been abducted from a local hospital in Pathum Thani, by a mysterious man. The incident occurred on the evening of September 27, prompting her to file a complaint at the Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station. According to Khunlin, she brought her sister to the Pathumthani Hospital on September 23 for treatment of food aspiration and paralysis, along with memory issues. On September 27, hospital staff informed her that Amphon was ready to be discharged. Due to her own struggles with depression and age-related limitations, Khunlin requested that her sister's three children come to take her home. However, when Khunlin visited the hospital the following morning with care packages for Amphon, she discovered that her sister had already been taken away by someone claiming to be her son. Alarmed, Khunlin contacted her sister’s relatives and learned that no one had come to pick her up. Upon reviewing the hospital's surveillance footage, it was revealed that a man, who did not resemble any family member, had taken Amphon in a taxi, raising concerns for her safety. The footage shows a man with dark skin and a shaved head lifting Amphon into a taxi before driving away. Khunlin expressed her disbelief that hospital staff would allow her sister to leave with someone who was not family, considering she had been the one to bring Amphon in for care. “I’m extremely worried. My sister is elderly and has multiple health issues. I urge the authorities to help bring her back,” Khunlin pleaded. In response, Pol. Lt. Col. Wichaya Phankham, head of the police station’s investigation unit, has initiated an inquiry and is coordinating with the hospital to review the footage and locate the taxi driver who picked up Amphon. In a commendable act, two officers from Ratchaburi Provincial Police Station were lauded for their swift action in saving a young woman attempting to jump off the Chulalongkorn Railway Bridge. The incident, which occurred on September 27, exemplified the dedication of the Royal Thai Police to protecting and serving the public. Pol. Lt. Gen. Prachuap Wongsuk, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police and acting Deputy Commissioner-General, expressed his admiration for the two officers, Pol. Sub-Lt. Wichian Maneevihek and Pol. Sub-Lt. Suphot Udomsuk, for their professionalism and bravery. The officers responded quickly after a call to the 191 emergency hotline reported a woman sitting on the edge of the Chulalongkorn Railway Bridge, crying and appearing ready to jump into the Mae Klong River. The woman, who had parked her motorcycle near the bridge, was in visible distress when the officers arrived. Using calm negotiation tactics, the officers engaged her in conversation to de-escalate the situation. After a tense period of dialogue, they successfully pulled her to safety and provided emotional support. She was later taken to the hospital for evaluation before being safely escorted back to her home in Chom Bueng district. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the woman was suffering from depression and several chronic illnesses. Financial pressures, including medical costs that her family had been helping with, had caused her to feel like a burden. In a moment of despair, she attempted to end her life but was saved in time by the officers’ quick response. Pol. Lt. Gen. Prachuap praised the two officers for embodying the principles of the Royal Thai Police, stating, "Their rapid response and dedication to saving this woman's life is a shining example of what it means to be a protector of peace."
