Up to 90% of Chinese arrivals in Thailand at present are independent travellers, with the tour group market accounting for just 10%.”

Tourism officials in Thailand remain optimistic that the kingdom will welcome 5 million Chinese tourists this year. The Tourism Authority of Thailand has set a target of 5.3 million visitors from China, generating revenue of 446 billion baht. This is a downgrade from their own predictions earlier this year of a robust return of Chinese tourists into Thailand.

However, according to a Nation Thailand report, there are a number of challenges that must first be overcome if this target is to be met. One of the most significant is that Thailand is competing with several other destinations trying to woo Chinese tourists.

A further complication is the ongoing recovery in the global aviation industry. There are still not enough flights to Thailand to meet demand, meaning some Chinese travellers have opted to visit other countries instead. But the airlines say they will cater for the demand but, at this time, the demand simply isn’t there.

So what is it?

If that is true, then I expect a further drop in the chinese tourists as the airlines will not cater to half full planes

you got it right, Chinese not coming  because the "pay for all-- plane/hotel/food" is not viable too many rip offs thus Chinese opted for alternatives, on top of that Thailand reputation isn't what it used to be, wife's family said some tv advertising about Thailand says they treat Chinese bad and not safe place

It's more to do with high unemployment in China off late. Western firms are leaving China in droves, people with university degrees working as janitors, the mortgage debacle hasn't been resolved and according to one article on Youtube China has misrepresented its GDP to the tune of 16 trillion Dollars, the Chinese are not happy campers. I doubt they will get a million to come here.

"the "pay for all-- plane/hotel/food" was already stopped for quite a while when there were 10 million Chinese visiting pre Covid. They did spend more per day that year than any other nationality.
