Officials have issued a stern warning to individuals found buying or possessing protected stones from Sam Roi Yot National Park.

The announcement, made by the Acting Director-General of the National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation Department, Mr. Atthapol Charoenshansa, follows the recent arrest of a gang involved in cutting sacred stones from a mountainside within the park.

Working in collaboration with the Royal Forest Department and the Provincial Police, park officials carried out a covert operation that led to the successful apprehension of seven suspects.

During the operation, they confiscated a variety of stone each weighing between 20 to 30 kilograms.

Not exactly a furtive theft. The alleged thieves must have been using noisy motor-powered saws to cut solid rock into blocks. But for what purpose? How were the blocks transported out of the park without raising suspicion at the check point? How are they 'sacred' once cut?

Seems they are special stones (limestone) with a "phosphorus texture) used to carve stuff like Bhudda statues and decorative objects. The purloined ones were 20~30 Kg and selling for Bhat 20k to 50k each. So that's about a Bhat to Bhat and a half a gram for uncut blocks.

Stoners, go figure!

Secret protected stones Pull the other one .

Who decides that they are Secret and Protected stones and makes that statement .

They are just Rocks in the field/nature.

So they got some stones/rocks from a National park that's theft ok that's it.
