Censorship , free speech and AI

Featured Replies

Not quite sure how it got there , but I have a shortcut to MSN news on my task bar, I normally only use it to check the weather but occasionally one of the news items catches my eye and I may look a little deeper.  Despite the claims of impartiality MSN. like all mainstream media, has an obvious left wing bias and as is to be expected many of its sensationalist headlines reflect this. Comments are invited on many of the stories but they are moderated  these days by what can only be described as a woker than woke AI system.   Its often very frustrating to try and make posts that comply with their rules on hate speech profanity, and offensiveness etc

Earlier today I was reading an article about the Henley Regatta  I tried to post that it was nice to see a rare example of a traditional english event of this nature but my comment was deemed as inappropriate , now matter how I worded it the censor would not let it pass

So I conducted a small experiment, I made several scathing criticisms which included the words   "Tory Scum"   "White Privilege"  "Racist White Bigots" "right wing views" etc etc    and every one of those posts flew past the censors with no problem whatsoever, despite the fact that the article was a relatively benign one with no mention of that sort of behaviour at the regatta its self.

The AI censor is quite sophisticated and seems to be uncannily   able to detect any signs of "inflammatory , discriminatory or offensive"  remarks so how on earth did my blatantly offensive and insulting remarks get past it ?   Any Ideas anybody

How do you know if it is AI or some ordinary algorithm or human?

In general, I agree that some (many? all?) places with comments skew what is shown according to what they want to see.

It used to be humans but then they made a big deal about using AI    either way its totally biased and one can only assume that is reflected in their stories and reporting style, basically people are being lied to,  and silenced even when speaking the truth. this is happening everywhere all the time.  It will not end well.

Anybody with differing views is dismissed as "far right" I have even seen the BBC described as such !    What will they think when the real "far right" emerge as a natural reaction to this which is only a matter of time.

Free speech is a thing of the past .

Snowflakes rule the roost these days and if some self righteous , virtue signaling , woke moron does not like the cut of your jib they will not spare themselves spewing out a lot of vitriol and hatred in your direction.

Therefore , it is wise to cloak yourself with sublime indifference and avoid these people like the plague. Pointless to argue with idiots or try to have a rational dialogue with them since it necessitates a long descent down to their level.

Just another reason to live in Thailand where such nonsense has not yet taken root.

Very true,  It also strikes me that words like "far/ extreme right"  "fascist" "racist"  "homophobe" "transphobe" etc etc  are not only used as an attempt at an insult, but as a kind of "conversation or discussion stopper" by these misguided  woke people when they are unable or unwilling to engage in any meaningful discussion.

This , as you correctly say has not taken root in Thailand yet but I genuinely fear that it won't be long before it, like fast food, becomes another westerm import that they really would be better off without.

Fortunately the lack of a overly generous social security and  benefits system  may help to keep the tide at bay, but I doubt it can be stopped forever.

The removal of the "old guard" of the political elite can only serve to heighten the risk,  as the newcomers will be all too easily influenced by the sinister WEF and  the rest of them

People need to be careful what they wish for, as once they have gone down that path there will be no going back

Digital currency and 15minute Moo bans  are just around the corner I fear

Yup. They throw these words down on people from their lofty castles like tactical nuclear weapons. In their warped view , these silly epithets trump absolutely and finaly all views that don't dovetail with their own. If they only knew how ridiculous they appear to ordinary people they would be surprised.

There are also appears to be a kind of hierarchy of wokeness emerging, For example the Uk is at present plagued with "Just stop oil" eco types causing mass disruption to  traffic, preventing people from getting to work and in some cases preventing the passage of ambulances whilst the police look on and do nothing due to their democratic "right to protest"

However when their actions were seen to threaten the current spate of LGB pride marches the police acted unusually quickly in removing them  One cause obviously trumps the others.

Presumably their is now an unpublished "league table" of wokeness, drawn up by "experts" of course which guides the "authorities as to who's sensitivities take priority.

I fully understand that as a white christian british hetro male, any feelings I may have now count for nothing

Sublime indifference is indeed a useful tactic to maintain one's sanity,  but unfortunately as somebody once said  all that is required for bad people to succeed is that good people do nothing,

It appears to me that currently, promoting that scenario, by preventing and silencing or at least discrediting  any opposition is the clearly intended aim

Sadly, the "ordinary people" whom the woke crowd seeks to influence, largely don't take the time to consider the restrictions being imposed on them stealthily and inexorably. Then one day...it's too damn late!

You're misinformed. Unlike other protests where JSO have just turned up out of the blue to stop the traffic etc. they actually spoke to the organizers days before and informed them in writing of their action, allowing plenty of time for police to take the appropriate measures.

JSO literally published the letter of their possible action on their Twitter account beforehand, so there was prior knowledge of their intentions.

misinformed about what, the police had to remove them and arrests were made The only measures required to be taken, were dragging the idiots off the road. you are missing the point completely

Thankfully, woke has not yet arrived in Thailand and I doubt it ever will.

Part of the reason I enjoy living here.  Not PC crazy in TH or SEA ????

USA was getting nuts 20 ish years ago (not as bad as EU), but I can't imagine how bad the USA is now.  I'd probably offend some snowflake every time I talked if over there now.

really can't be bothered to explain in detail, in English they are referred to as 15minute towns, look it up.  basically it involves people being confined to their locale were all requirements will be met within a 15 minute travelling radius. Yet another sinister plan from Klaus Schwab's  WEF
