Police Prepare For Nationwide Protests, Parliament Heavily Guarded

NATIONAL Police Chief Pol. Gen. Damrongsak Kittipraphat early this morning (July 14) ordered police nationwide to prepare for possible protests with Parliament strongly guarded following prime minister-designate Pita Limjaroenrat failing to get enough votes to take the helm of the government at a joint House/senate meeting yesterday, Naewna newspaper said.

 

The pro-Pita votes cast by the lawmakers yesterday only accounted for 324 votes, 13 of which came from senators, but it was 51 votes short of a minimum of 375 accounting for more than half the combined total of MPs and senators as required by law.

 

Tight security was mounted around the Parliament building with approximately 40 containers covered with vinyl sheets placed around the entrance. High-pressure water cannon trucks and paddy wagons were being brought in.

Agreed. Interesting that my Embassy first thing this morning was on Twitter warning all of us to be careful and avoid all protests. Something brewing for sure an it ain't beer or coffee.

The authorities knew that refusing to accept the people's choice of Prime Minister would lead to rioting. This is a scenario that was just waiting to happen, and the military will feel justified in taking whatever

actions they need to quell the demonstrations; Military Junta Rulebook 101.

On the contrary, who would be stupid enough to knowingly retain shares in a media company, especially when your predecesor was banned for the same reason and announce inflamitory policies on changing the lesse majeste laws. That is just plain stupid and shows a lack of polical awareness.

Elections are a total farce if ignored or overruled. This is an embarrassment for the country. As for article 112: a robust, respected and maybe even beloved monarchy does not need a special law. Defamation law as for everyone else suffices for all the other monarchies.

Nah this is going to be different, before in the old red/yellow days things were more regional now the whole of BKK voted for Pita as well as the North and the South  that's the difference, the old tribal loyalties are no longer the same so there will be buses from Issaan the South and local BKK...

And not by standing in front of the building with inflated plastic ducks, singing songs like they did in the recent past, this is not going to work. Thai should look back at short but powerfull revolutions in 80-90ties, Romania, East-Germany, a.o.

I totally disagree. I believe they absolutely DO get it. They just don't care.
