Popular Post webfact Posted August 10, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 10, 2023 Immigration police officers arrested an Iraqi man in the central province of Kanchanaburi today after almost 15 years of overstaying in Thailand. As part of a concerted effort to root out illegal immigrants across the country, Thai authorities, led by the Royal Thai Police and Immigration Bureau, meticulously investigated cases in each province. The meticulous operation led to the discovery of the Iraqi man, identified as 43 year old Oday Jabbar Khudhair, who had been concealing himself in a guest house within Kanchanaburi. Kanchanaburi Provincial Immigration Officers swooped at 11am, effectively arresting Khudhair. Records show that he initially entered Thailand on May 24, 2008, under a Non-Immigrant Visa (Non-B), permitting him until August 21 of the same year. However, Khudhair blatantly disregarded the stipulations and evaded capture. Initially residing in other provinces, Khudhair adopted a nomadic pattern, flitting from one locale to another until ultimately settling in Kanchanaburi. This calculated evasion led to his overstay of 5,468 days, nearly 15 years. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ สำนักข่าวกาญจน์ - Kanchanaburi News Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/iraqi-man-arrested-for-overstaying-in-thailand-for-nearly-15-years -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-08-11 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Hakuna Matata Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 This is only a tip of the iceberg. There a thousands of long-term overstayers in Thailand from countries like Nigeria, Romania, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, China, South Korea, etc. 1

richard_smith237 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 A number of harsh voiced from some who’ve forgotten their humanity. After the war in Iraq then the Daesh insurgency I can hardly find criticism with anyone wanting to escape such horror…. While Iraq & particularly the North (Kurdistan region) is much safer than it was a few years ago it’s still quite a dangerous place. Cases such as this really should have be offered assistance & asylum until a return to the homeland was sufficiently safe, which of course an argument could be made that since the dissolution of the Daesh Iraq now is (relatively compared to 6 years ago). 1 1
JeffersLos Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 I hope he doesn't have a family here. Or they might have just bagged dad.

Indeed… this could be a horrific situation where a family are separated. I would hope Thailand (all countries) are sympathetic to such issues, but sadly there is usually a monochromatic response. 1
Andrew65 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Well done that man! I think the previous longest overstay that I had heard about was 12 years.
JeffersLos Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Are there many job opportunities for illegally staying Iraqis in Kanchanaburi? Iraq 2008 isn't the the first place I think of in terms of providing decades long self sufficient expats.
transam Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 The article, referring to immigration, had the front to use the word "Swoop", I thought that was.......????

Have you even seen the accommodation on the Dutch barge? It's very luxurious (4-5 star hotel), doctor and medical staff, dentist. The kind of care the locals would love. Now compare that to this gentleman's fate!!!!!
