The missus and I walked along Jomtien Beach prom yesterday evening with friends and it was very crowded and noisy. All the noise was coming from pick-ups parked alongside the pavement blasting out bass-heavy "music". The occupants were sat across the pavement from their vehicles getting tanked up, dancing etc. All young Thais, male and female. We ate at a restaurant on Beach Road road, but it was difficult to hear yourself think. 

I used to live at a condo across from the beach, but moved out when I saw the writing on the wall some 14 years back. It was getting noisy even then, but nothing like it is now.

The police could make a start by clamping down on all the pick-ups with the souped-up music systems, they aren't hard to find!

I might add that all the farang were behaving themselves and had nothing to do with the noise production. Like Thais everywhere, even away from the beach areas, they just have no thought of playing music with the bass turned down.

The usual sledgehammer to crack a nut Thai solution. Instead of arresting those disturbing the peace - you know, the police doing their job -  ban everyone from the beach. Brilliant. Welcome tourists - no romantic walking on the beach at night, and no drinking or smoking on the beach at any time. You can do all that in your own country. We don't allow any of that nonsense here.

The police get paid whether they work or not, so they see no reason to actually do anything.

The Council on Samui removed the rubbish bins because people/business owners weren't paying a very small fee to have them collected and emptied, hence hundreds of black rubbish bags in piles around the island, which are subject to "investigation" by soi dogs and rats alike!

So where will the security personnel come from to ensure that the beach remains empty of people? If they lack the personnel to ensure no rowdy behaviour, where will they find them to check there is no-one on the beach?

 

Did any reporter ask them that? I doubt it, but I can imagine the blank stare they'd get in response.

A crackdown nationwide on sound pollution should solve a lot of problems...Education how bad loud music is for ears, and how sound makes people uneasy/nervous or stressed... And of course enough bins, emptied when busy several times a day and high fines for making rubbish. Why in many other countries they can handle it? Law enforcement by the police, but hey have to work more than from 9 to 17.00

During COVID there were often all night beach parties. People really needed to get out and socialise. The police were in fairly regular attendance. I think they took a fairly benign view. Keep the volume down. There was a constant line from the beach to the 7s on the nights outside curfew. There has to be some way of policing the beach parties that allows people the freedom to enjoy themselves.

 

The street cleaners come out every morning about 4am. They do a fantastic job. I'm talking Jomtien mainly. The whole of Beach Rd swept clean. But I'm not sure about beach cleaning. Fines?

The law is already in place if Mr Plod had any interest in enforcing it.

No drinking of alcohol in a public place, which should also be used to stop guys staggering down the road with a large bottle of beer in their hand.

It does not take a rocket scientist to look around pattaya and jomtiem and see the explosive growth of more and more massive condos, more bangkok visitors,  more people, more businesses and all the crap and problems that generally comes with such massive growth.  All of that over time will contribute to more trash, more noise, more traffic, more crime, etc.

 

The problem seems to be that the powers that be love all the big money projects that flow in but do not seem to have much of a plan or finance to improve the necessary infrustrutre , cleaning staff, cops, secuirty , traffic enforcement to deal with it....this is the area where mai pen rie just is not gonna cut it because it does matter more and more not just to tourists but locals as well.  They can pass laws and put up signs til the cows come home but if nobody seriously enforces it why bother?  It really does take some serious people serious planning serious money and serious law enforcement...digging up beach road every few weeks and redoing the tile yet again and saying mai pen rie is not gonna fix the problems.

 

All sorts of problems come with growth all over the world...some places deal with it fairly well....others not well at all....

Good ^ And in particular with the big increase in the Thai population here + beach side parking along Pattaya beach the city has caused this problem. Who did they expect to attract with beach side (pickup party parking) Mr &Mrs from Europe. To the contrary those folks are going elsewhere.

The schools are some of the worse offenders, along with the Temples. Both supposed to be for educating,

Indeed... both have the duty to educate but the only thing they do is damaging the hearing of young and everyone else...But who dares to say something to a temple? who dares to say something to a teacher or director?? Abolish the class system

The only thing that is going to change is that this partying is going to get louder and with more Thais piling in. And I could care less. Given up on Pattaya beach day or night anyway. Let them knock themselves out. When I was 20,22 we would stay up and party in Laguna Beach/Ensenada  for 2&3 days and nights at a time.

You can buy a similar villa beach road on the Côte d’Azur for that price or even a bit less. With spotless beaches and azur sea water . I do wonder who’s going to buy that one in Jomtien, is it the new places near Cosy beach /Rabbit  resort ??
