webfact
Pattaya — An Arabian tourist was killed when his high-powered motorbike collided with another on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya around midnight on Thursday, August 17th. Two other people were seriously injured. Pol Lt. Akarapong Saenputawong, the duty officer at the Pattaya police station, received a report of the accident at midnight today. He rushed to the accident scene on Sukhumvit Road inbound to Sattahip, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province, along with Sawang Boriboon emergency responders, The Pattaya News team, and medical personnel from Banglamung Hospital. They found a significantly damaged black Honda Wave 110 motorcycle fallen on the road. The rider was identified as Mr. Boontai Vot, a 25-year-old Cambodian national. He suffered severe fractures on both legs and was in critical condition. About 100 meters away from Mr. Boontai lay another two wounded men, both Arabian nationals although their exact country of origin was unclear. Indeed.... just a few days ago a 'crack-down' was announced.... Did anyone actually believe this is anything more than hot air ??? BiB are simply so ineffective their apathy is tantamount to permitting and enabling such behavior. The elephant in the room is also ignored - the renters who rent out their motorcycles to those without valid licensing - the BiB could easily deal with this issue if they weren't so outrageously lazy. 6 1 2

Was thinking of the lady doctor that was killed on a crossing, next thing painted crossings all over the country, big fines too for naughty drivers ignoring them. Now if this dead Arab is one with a rich family types, then who knows...???? 1

We saw the usual netizen outrage, two weeks of 'announcements of crack-downs', re-painted crossings, some of them even with red paint and loads of police with flat caps taking their photo-op.... But... has anything actually changed at all ??? any improvement a couple of years on ? 1

I live in CM, I observe very often cars stopping at the pedestrian crossing, I know that I am more confident to do it now without fear of being rear bumped. Much better than a a couple of years back. Of course, not always. Back to OP, totally speechless at the daily reports of such accidents in Pattaya, as long as they hurt themselves it's a nuisance, but when they start being a risk for everybody on 2 wheels at night then it has to stop. 1

Yes indeed, but it does beg the question, is this just usual police ineptitude/laziness, or something else. Are they afraid to arrest these 'Arabs' because of what?

I've been banging on about Pattaya Plod for over 15 years. Nothing has changed except they seem to be working fewer hours and have more holidays. The deaths-on-the-road figure is directly attributable to speed. With all the CCTV cameras at their disposal this offence could/should be eradicated in months.
