Children under six must now be in child seats meeting safety standards. Drivers could face fines up to 2,000 baht. However.

But road users

- shouldn't drive drunk

- shouldn't drive over the speed limit

- shouldn't drive the wrong way

- should wear seat belts and crash helmets

- should drive with a valid licence

None of these seem to be adhered to, so why would anyone put a kid in a seat? And how about toddlers and babies on motorbikes?

Is there, or will there be, any restrictions on number of persons on motorbikes?

What about children standing in front of driver while riding on a motorbike?

For many years, I have seen a family of 5 on a motorbike, for example.

Does this mean that this overloading of motorbikes is now disallowed?

drivers without a child seat can still take children under six if they follow rules.

1. Place children in back seat of vehicles with more than four seats or in front passenger seat of pickup trucks.

2. Fasten seat belts securely at child's waist.

3. Drive slowly in leftmost lane on roads.

Transporting toddlers and babies in arms while riding four deep on a busted ass scooter with no tread doing 70kph on the highway is still okay, don't worry.

Were sidecars, at least, ever a thing here?

Our friend bought a child seat but when I asked her why she never used it she said she had it in the boot. She really thought just having it in the car worked like an amulet and it would protect the kiddie, who had already smashed into the windscreen after braking hard and broken the glass! Never did see either of her kids actually in it.

I guess all the manufactures will now have to fit child seat anchor points in the cargo bed of their pick ups.

I have put one seat belt in the back of my smartcab and will fit a middle and another if I need to easy enough to do.

Pickup have tiedown points already, they are load rated far higher than the weight of a child 6yrs or under.

Sad, laws are needed to enforce common sense.   They had child seats in the news a few years back, and remember shelves were empty w/price gouging.

Expecting a repeat.

Wonder what the upfront outlay is for a certified child seat ?

I expect too much for many so will run the risk.... kids can easily be replaced though so no biggie if they die.

Unfortunately, that is the only way some families can get around.

And yes, it frightens me to see it.

What rules apply to children OVER six?

Does it mean that the driver can go a bit faster, and in the other lanes?

Sorry, I was being facetious, so do not warrant a Laugh emoji.

They're allowed to drive kid's motorbikes - like the Honda Click - and girls' cars - like the Toyota Yaris, aren't they?

I think they get their license off the back of their Milo cereal box at around that age.

โตแล้ว!
