Poll respondents disagree with Pheu Thai’s “government of reconciliation”

Most respondents to a Nida Poll disagree with the Pheu Thai party partnering with the two junta-linked parties, Palang Pracharath and United Thai Nation, to form a “government of reconciliation”, and most would prefer Paetongtarn Shinawatra as Thailand’s next prime minister.

 

The National Institute of Development Administration (Nida) conducted an opinion poll of 1,310 people aged over 18 andof various occupations and educational backgrounds across the country.

 

Asked about the “government of reconciliation”, to end the decades-old political colour polarization, the poll shows 47.71% of the respondents strongly disagree with such a government; 16.79% disagree, while 19.47% said that they strongly support such a government and 15.11% said they agree.

 

Asked who is most appropriate to be Thailand’s next prime minister, 38.63% of the respondents favour Paetongtarn, while 36.56% want Srettha Thavisin and 8.47% support Chaikasem Nitisiri, also of the Pheu Thai party.

Weren't the people of Thailand already asked who they they most favoured to be the next prime minister?

Looks like a really honest group of men....anyone would have to approve this group.........as usual, no women of course!

Poor Thailand.....just on the cusp of becoming something to be admired, these old men again stuff it all up!

There is no such thing as reconciliation with the old dinosaurs, who by there very actions are stealing the election from the countries future who voted in huge numbers to get them out.

Dancing with military devil is not the way forward but is harking back to their illegitimate regime of 10 years.

Unfortunately the corrupt practices and past are all that really count.

This reminds me of working a trade show, first few days dismal, says somebody, "maybe tomorrow". For Thais it must be like, "maybe the next election". (That never panned out at the trade shows!)

No they weren't asked that question. There is no direct election for the PM. It is not part of the electoral process.

Thailand is supposed to be a representative democracy where the electorate votes for members of a party. In other countries the party with most seats picks the PM from their ranks. Here because the military (Prayut and Prawit) appointed all. Those Senators get to vote on who is PM, Pita could not get the chance because no senator would vote for him. The next PM, I think will get the chance to pick new senators when their term expires in less that a year. For Thailand the choice of the PM is very important. If it is another general, then you'll get the ex-military generals as Senators.

If Thaksin comes the yellow will be out in force

If Thaksin gets jailed the few red shirts left will be out in force

If Prawit becomes PM then the MFP and ex PT supporters will have a party

 

Then there is always the possibility that Srettha vote goes the way that Pita's did and the senators go sorry no thanks.

 

Remember the senate does not need to elect a military PM.  They already have one in power.

True, car and driver etc., makes one look important. Everybody will notice and 'drive around the block again' to make sure everybody notices. Never mind what contribution the person is making to gain improvements etc., for the country.

 

Many years back I discovered by accident that one of my uni students (so called prestigious Thai uni) was registered using his mother's family name.

 

I also discovered he was driver to within 200 metres of the uni gate (in a small back lane) every morning by his fathers' gov't issue car and driver then he walked the rest of the way to uni. All in reverse late afternoon. 

 

His father was a con-man politician.

Also had a case at another so called prestigios uni, a bigger very strong boy threw a heavy chair with writing table arm at a female student in the classroom, broke her arm in 2 places.

 

Arrogant bully boy refused to assist in any way and refused to apologize.

 

His father was called to the uni for a discussion (all conducted in English, the father had graduated after several attempts at diffeent unis in the US, he spoke English).

 

The dean said "please talk to your son and tell him he cannot do things like this". 

 

Father responded abruptly "NO, because I want my son to have fun at uni." 

 

Father was a well known thug and con-man, a member of the current Thai gov't. 

 

Soon after another violent incident and the dean dismissed the boy and cancelled all his grades.

 

Son went to US to study but again dismissed for violence and had to return to LOS. 

 

Local uni in Bkk refused to have him back because his name had been recorded as 'banned from entry to a Thai uni'.

PT will be wiped out in the next election and it will well before the four year term as coalition parties very rarely last the full term once the unelected senators are shown the door there will be a vote of No Confidence and MFP will win by a landslide
