I thought he was an international fugitive.  He was escorted out of the jet and all smiles.  Does he get booked, face a judge or have to post bail?  From what I saw it looked rather low key and anticlimactic?  Is he really going to jail/prison?

So the News says. Sentenced within an hour of landing.

Do you know he increased visa fees from 500 to 1900 baht.

Still very cheap!
Strange to make a political opinion just about that!

An elected politician tried in court under a dictatorship but the dictator remains free

And the arrest without charge of some 1200 protesters who were manacled and stacked, yes their bodies were stacked, in shipping containers, without air or water, to be transported to prison resulting in the deaths of 85 Thai citizens.  Thaksin didnt order the massacre but he strongly supported the military/police personel that did, as well as their actions.

What’s your point?

There are some people who exemplify their Chineseness with the control obsession, Xi Jin Ping being the exemplar. Thaksin at the end of his time in power was displaying this unfortunate tendency.

10 to 15% of Thais are from Chinese origin.  That’s an awful lot to detest !

You can take the Chinese out of China but...

Not a lot of younger red shirts, unlike the 2009 and 2010 protests. Not sure how much Thaksin's brand resonates with young voters as a 74 year old out of touch with Thai people and a sell out to the military.

I think the extrajudicial killings probably saved a lot of kids' lives. When I came here they had nowhere near the problem that exist today with yaba. Same thinking that led the Americans to nuke Hiroshima and Nagasaki, that sometimes the noble end justifies the means. I don't necessarily agree with that line of thinking, but I don't think he should go to jail for anything. The trial was a politically motivated pig circus (in the words of Bob Dylan).

Please don't quote Bob Dylan and praise Thaksin in the same post. They are incomparable as people and public figures. Thaksin and Dutertes have a lot in common, and any close friend of Hun Sen is no friend of mine.

Good point.  Haha.such a snake like Thaksin chosen over dinosaurs. I prefer T although its unbelievable that a genuine guy P  comes into play and he has been told to go home to mommy. Newer tiktok generations will not have much ability to make any difference.  Looks like same same for eternity here.

The military dinosaurs are bedfellows now of the Pheu Thai party.

You don't understand the mentality of Chinese bosses, evidently, the vicious circle of power and wealth. That's not to say that overseas Chinese such as Chinese Thais are incapable of assimilation and reform.

I don't recall that.

I do recall many countries offered serious immediate help and aid, massive equipment, medical, plans equipment materials funds to rebuild verylarge numbers of houses, hospitals etc., and more. He arogantly rejected all along with 'we don't need help Thailand is not a poor country, go away'.

along with the prosecution of people helping out in the emergency, for visa offences

I just walked by my wife's TV set and noticed that "Tony" has brought a Red Revolution with him it seems.  So much for long-run political stability in the LOS (Land of <colored> Shirts).  But perhaps that is the point all along.  Back to pre-2014 it seems.

Interesting. I do believe close to nobody knows at this stage what this is all about, what's the strategy, what's the expected end result etc.

But we do know the paymaster is interested in one thing only - himself, all else has been caste aside and trodden on.

- Has he PM voting finished?

- Any clear result?

I gave up on reading posts on page 1.

I get an email saying he's been arrested and is in jail but when I open the site it says some says he will be arrested.

Is someone taking the mickey or did I miss something?
