Move Forward becomes main opposition party

Despite being the largest single party in Thailand’s House of Representatives, the Move Forward party has announced that it will work in opposition, after parliament overwhelmingly endorsed the Pheu Thai party’s prime ministerial candidate, Srettha Thavisin, yesterday (Tuesday).

 

Srettha received 482 votes of approval, against 165 of disapproval and 81 abstentions.

 

Move Forward’s secretary-general, Chaithawat Tulathon, told the media that the partnership between Pheu Thai and the junta-linked parties, among others, to form the coalition government does not end the political divide, characterized by the red and yellow groups, but is collusion to extend the junta’s political system.

 

He said that the party will do its utmost to check the performance of the government for the benefit of the people and will coordinate with those outside parliament to effect change in Thai society.

Pheu Thai received a rubberstamp from the Junta and their lackeys the Senators, they did not receive a "vote of approval" from the electorate.

Probably isn't going to do a great good in opposition, much of foul play will happen with individual dinosaurs and business cronies,  call them out on something, even if it's true, their fragile egos are bruised and they'll spin it as defamation, drag it through the courts for years, the mainstream media will walk too carefully around it and soon each art of fleeing the people gets buried. The next election is big opportunity, will another 18% of people awake, or will 20,000baht pay out keep enough on their side to continue the status quo, this of course their no special act of law changing that enables senators to have a vote in next election, then might as well write off Thailand forever.

I'd be surprised if it lasts 9 months to be honest.

The powers-that-be may have been able to hold off MFP for now, but the genie is out of the bottle and the progressive movement will only get stronger as time goes on. A mere tip of 10,000 baht, IF the handout happens, won't be enough to enamour the electorate with the Party of Thaksin again. Young people do not care about PT.

 

There will be change soon enough. You can count on it.

This was a wise decision. So far, Pita has shown us nothing but integrity and that is in very short supply here, when it comes to politics. They need to oppose the highly toxic army and the sold out PT, which likely lost alot of it's remaining goodwill by jumping into bed with the reptiles. 

 

Thailand mourns. For now, it's future has been stolen once again by the army thieves and goons. The army is no doubt the enemy of the people, and so is the new stooge PM.

You can bet your bottom baht that PT and it's allegiance with the military/elites will do everthing it in can to get MFP dissolved. MFP are now not only the enemy of the military elite but also the enemy of PT. PT knows that come the next election they will lose votes to MFP.

personally i have stopped taking an interest in the politics here.  Its none of my business

All I am concerned about it my own life, and my loved ones and friends here.

For now, all is fine.  Immigration a bit of a pain with the ridiculous 90 day reports, that for some reason i can no longer do online, but thats my only gripe.  So not bad at all.

If it gets a real pain to live here, simple, i will go somewhere else.

But as for now, all ok, and whoever is in charge is none of my business.  I stick to the rules

PT will be finished soon. Everything they stood for was gone in the blink of an eye, when they agreed to allow the goons to continue their March of misery. It is sheer madness. An unbelievably horrific decision. Likely due to a promise to get the old man off the hook.

Thailand isn't mourning, that's what they did when the old King passed away. And Thais generally still respect the Royal Family even if they are very disappointed of late.

PT are not exactly, "army thieves and goons" and are well respected by the lower echelons even though they've lost a lot of credibility with their new "partners". Many of my Isaan family now lean towards MFP as a consequence. "Army enemy of the people" aw c'mon. Maybe you're confused with our neighbours.

But you do like to exaggerate and will doubtless get the real goon support.

Perhaps.. but maybe instead people will start getting more money in their pockets and change their minds. Money is the key... Thaksin knew this before.. So did the red shirts.. Especially the new law reducing payments to the elderly monthly..  Not alot of people are happy they have to send more money to family members because of this. Bad move for the last government. But maybe that was planned also . Reduce it now and when their new leader takes office increase it even more. Hmm.. something to think about..makes him look so good.. I would bet there were many things planned to get this new pm.. just took time to get it all on place.  I will not be surprised if he steps down for medical reasons and allows the real leader meant to be there take over.

There will always be some who just vote based on Thaksin. It's like Trump, he said himself he could shoot someone and still get votes.

Hopefully they lose enough votes to lose power.

Good for Move Forward. I think they made the right decision for themselves, the Thai people and the Thai state. Even if things did not go as they want, it seems they will continue to fight for what they believe is right and as many Thais think - fight for a better future for the state and the nation. If I were Thai, I would be happy to have them working for me in the political arena

Given the lying and treachery which have followed the election MFP are best off staying right out of it, and leading the opposition. They will likely win big at the next election.

Don't know who you are talking to, but around here (Phuket) people are livid and do find the PT an army of thieves and goons.
