Am I the only one using (Indian) 'cook in sauces'?

I do like an Indian curry, but am too lazy to drive the 12km into Chiang Mai every time I want one.

Tried the packet mixes, but they're just nasty.

But the cook in sauces work well every time (dice and stir fry the chicken, add sauce and simmer/stir for 15 mins). They are all medium (no matter what it says on the jar), so if you like it hot you will need to add more red/cayenne pepper.

It's 100bht (ish) a jar for the sauces, and another 75bht for 750gm of chicken breast, takes around 20mins (mostly stirring).

I buy the sauces (Patak or Sharwood) from Food Variety on Lazada.

4-5 meals for 175bht so not too expensive.

Did Chicken Madras this morning,

I have a couple in the cupboard that I haven’t used. Now already three years past their Best Before date ☺️

I prefer a slightly more dry curry, slow cooked for a bit longer(up to four hours) and served with condiments(pickle and yoghurt)

Beef and potato Madras style on wholemeal paratha:

When we're in the US lucky enough to have a few good Indian restaurants that deliver courtesy of Doordash.

In Thailand I kinda like Pataks sauces which i get in Tops

Not as good as a restaurant, but pretty darn close

It’s like the ‘70s all over again in Oz.
But what do you do in Thailand? So easy to make your own.

Expatfoods. shipped in a foam box with dry ice. Britshop also have the same.

It’s interesting that they state the curries are cooked by an Indian chef. Not too many Indians will use beef as an ingredient. Of course lamb, mutton and goat are a bit more rare and probably relatively expensive.

I use Pataks curry pastes as I prefer my curries on the dry side, much like the northern Thai ['hang lay' curry.

Reading this thread made me hungry so ....

 ... Now, Chinese restaurants ...........................................

My wife worked at a Chinese restaurant in the U.S. awhile back.  When the restaurant changed hands, the new owner had to tear up the kitchen and replace most everything.

You’ll need a better smartphone if you want to participate in any food porn threads. Not enough detail ????

7/11 actually did a fairly decent Indian fresh meal for 69b but they haven't stocked it for a while.

I'm also partial to Japanese curry and make my own using curry cubes. 60b for two meals and pumpkin from the garden + rice.

Actually they still do it. Just not available in your particular 7-11.

Here’s a picture to fill you with nostalgia.

I didn’t actually eat it, but I’m told it was a; 7 out of 10.

That's the one. Considering the lack of meat you usually get in their ready meals this is excellent. 8/10

Actually I bought it because someone on this forum mentioned it, but I gave it away for someone else to review it, as my standard might be unrealistic. Though it certainly looks edible.

And a well cropped photo so no one can criticise the state of your counter-top or table !!! :giggle:

It’s not my photo…. As I wrote… I gave it away.
Though there are some pictures that I posted earlier in the thread if you like to take a look to see if there is something that you can criticise.

Maybe you enjoy less than authentic Indian food because you can't be ar$ed to cook yourself by using easily available curry powders/ingredients, instead of ready made jars ?
