That would mean a big 'loss of face' so not going to happen.

Would also mean returning the up-front commission already paid.........

  • Why do they need engines? Park them up in Sattahip next to the Chakri Narubet and open them on Childrens day!

It will go something like this:   Thai minister: will you give us a German engine?   German minister: No   Thai minister: Ok

The issue here is the lack of due diligence that was made at the time of the order by the Thai government - It is the buyers responsibility to check that (especially in arms and munitions) what they order can be delivered.  Mind you Thailand has a good track record on this - remember the GT200 bomb detectors that cost the country over 1 billion baht and were a complete con.

Good on the Chinese they have managed to get the Thais to cough up the cash for something they cannot deliver. ....And now the farangs are being asked nicely to fix the issue for Thailand. Lol

If China cannot deliver according to the contract, it would be easy to cancel this nonsensical procurement order. The problem is probably more at the level of commissions that have already been paid and received "gifts" when the contract was concluded.

To Argentina?

I thought I read in a recent post the Thai's had decided to go with the Chinese motor?  Wonder what is going on now.

call on the German government to allow the sale of the German-made MTU396 engine for the Yuan-class S26T submarine being built by China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co

Does Thailand not trust the Chinese which is the opposite of what the Thai government said it was trying to preserve its relationship?

China said it would substitute and support the certification of substituting the German-made engine with a Chinese-made engine and guarantee engine warranty.

Thailand's insistence on a German engine that has been largely copied by the Chinese disservices Thailand's Chinese relationship and gives Germany another excuse not to allow its engine in the submarine thereby damaging Thailand's relationship with Germany.

Score O wins and 2 losses for the new government.

Why not ask the Swedes? They are producing great submarines with the quite Sterling engine and they are not Nato members. Yet.

Order this engine through Selensky, the special friend of Mrs. Baerbock, and she will deliver it in person asap.
Probably will fly it to Bangkok in the airplane of the German government - if their crap is working this time.

In this day and age of supposed climate change, why not buy a massive elastic band. It would save a lot of money and be good for the environment.

Didn't they sell some Grippen fighter jets to Thailand?

China knew and Thailand should have known as well but the red envelopes must have been quite thick

"""given snags in the procurement of the MTU396 engine which was among German military hardware and equipment on which a sustained embargo is imposed for sale to Asia’s superpower. """

if  Thailand wanted submarines with German engines they should have bought the submarines from Germany if they wanted to buy Chinese submarines sure they knew they would come with Chinese engine, question is why did China promised Chinese submarines with German engines knowing Germany would not supply them  Thailand soooooo smarrrrtttt

Yes, I think they have 11. But not sure if they are on leasing or if they actually sold them to Thailand.

With the Chinese motor running that sub they should’ve canceled the order. Oh I forgot. The big boys have already received their payment and advancing it probably offshore TIT.

In a submarine??

I worked in ship building in Australia, we built frigates for both the Aust and NZ navies. The first few were German designed by Blohm and Voss in Hamburg. The rest were US designed by Todd Shipyards in Seattle. The German design was so much better than the US design. Of course Australia fell for the US  crap citing cost etc and paid the consequences. Thailand would be better advised to invest in more appropiate vessels for Thai conditions, such as patrol boats etc detecting anything illegal from getting into Thailand.

How about a huge supply of life jackets to attach to prominent seaside points to assist the country in staying afloat.

"Relationships between Thailand and Germany and with China would remain intact if the Germans eventually agreed to sell the sought-after engine for use with the Chinese sub by the Thai navy, according to the civilian defence minister." - that sounds more like a threat to germany.....are the thais for real??

Threat ???????????? these cowards couldn't threaten the Isle of Wight

"Thailand to urge Germany"?

Starting off on the wrong foot

"Relationships between Thailand and Germany and with China would remain intact if the Germans eventually agreed to sell the sought-after engine..."

And how exactly is that Germany's problem? The contract and conditions were clear. The Chinese couldn't deliver as per contract. Send it back to the Chinese and ask for a refund. Good luck ????

After all these years dealing with the Chinese and always ending up short, one has to wonder when the Thai finally get it, no matter how fat the brown envelopes must be.

I hope my country will not be too much impressed by the Thai's call and let these morons go dive without engine... Do not support China doing business. Why is China unwilling to provide the engine? Military secret? Germany should jump in instead? Maybe Thailand needs to switch to aerospace instead of deepwaters. Put Somchai on the Mars please.

Thai government has stolen people's pension during covid. Remember? Maybe they should repay that before they go kiss and hug Chinese. They need a sub for what? To make big brother China happy??

  • Popular Post

Isn't it sick? Thais buy a sub without engine and have no functioning agreement about receiving an engine. Now they need to go around and ask? wtf? Thai morons want the big face but mess up the big deal with beloved Chinese big brothers. MTU should not be allowed to export military equipment to indirectly support Chinese enemies, nor to support Thailand militarily. Maybe they put the hightech German engine in and then the deal gets surprize surprize cancelled and the sub goes back to China ofc with  German engine.... won't be surprized if this is the plan ...

With the very shallow Gulf of Thailand, I think they'd be better off with one of these:

What are the hidden unknowns … like spyware / control capabilities added from the Manufacturer (China)……. A sun is not needed Thailand has few conflicts if any with other countries. Cancel the order

due to breach in contract ( No German Motor) …

I think the engine(s) needs to be installed before the pressure hull can be completed. If delivery is to be on schedule next year they have to put a power unit in now. Will the submerged running electric motors be powered by Chinese made Li-On batteries?????

That.........is what matters, the engines are superficial!

Hm,..Indeed "the engines are superficial!" But the Thai navy still have to show results !!

Maybe a Honda Click engine would work....

Too reliable…

In further developments, the Germans have been confused about Thailand’s specifications to include a long tail version…

Please, please. We don't want a junky engine on our ridiculously expensive sub. And we don't want to be reliant on China for repairs. Please help us out. And while you are at it, send some apple strudel. Thailand needs help in the dessert department too.
