Patong Tuk Tuk Taxi Driver Fined 500 Baht for Assaulting Indian Passengers

Patong – A Tuk Tuk taxi driver has been charged and fined 500 baht for attacking his Indian passengers in Patong.

The Patong Police told the Phuket Express that a dash cam video had gone viral on social media earlier this week. The video appears to show a group of taxi drivers arguing with a group of foreign tourists on a road in Patong. One of the taxi drivers in the video appears to physically assault one of the Indian tourists by hitting him in the face.

 

The Patong Police continued their investigation after the incident and found that a Tuk Tuk taxi driver had picked up five Indian tourists from Bangla Road in Patong to bring them back to their hotel.

On one hand they wish for hundreds of thousands more tourists to visit Thailand and on the other the slap a ridicules fine on a Thai that assault one of them, where is the message and where is the deterrent?

Therein I would say lay the problem.  The 5 probably insisted they all go together in one tuk tuk to save money however at destination insisted on a discount because of the uncomfortable crammed ride.

Several posters on here suggesting the Indians deserved having one of them attacked, based on no proof at all. Makes a change from Thai bashing I suppose. Let's bash the Indians instead. As for the driver, instead of fining him a pointless 500 baht and telling him to be nice, how about three months in jail for assault.

No. They keep asking for rich tourists. What they get is what the country actually qualifies before. Thailand attracts cheap.

I don't know about Indians in Phuket, but very few of the Pattaya Indians are slim.Half of them are morbidly obese.

This represents a major crackdown on tuk tuk mischief. You know the authorities are getting serious, when they level a fine of $14. This guy will be crippled. A fine equal to two short rides. Imagine such a thing.
