So by my reckoning, it's 5 months, but I have my doubts as to whether he will serve that long!!!

You can calculate all you wants acording to the published regulations.

 

A new decree will pop up very soon which overrides the old regulations.

Well, technically yes as he isn't free to leave anywhere on his own accord.  He is still in their custody.

5 October is the next hurdle or then, two months later on 5 December - Xmas at home? 

Expect an official full amnesty writ before long - which was already in the works months ago.
