The Hua Hin Municipality has submitted a formal request to provincial officials for the green light to host its annual long tail boat racing event at Khao Tao reservoir in November.

In a meeting on Sept 22, Ms. Busaba Choksucharti, the deputy mayor of Hua Hin among other key officials, attended a meeting at the provincial administration, which was chaired by Mr. Komkrit Jaroenphattanasombat, the Deputy Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan. Mr. Wisanu Wasanont, a local representative of Prachuap Khiri Khan, was also in attendance, along with other committee members.

The heart of the discussion revolved around the municipality’s request for the continuation of the longboat racing event. This event traditionally occurs every November to December at the Khao Tao reservoir, a project that was initiated by royal directive.

The committee’s task was to ascertain whether the event adheres to the Ministry of Interior’s guidelines and can be classified as a local traditional ceremony. In an earlier session, the committee had advised the municipality to furnish evidence of the event’s historical relevance and records that underscore local involvement.

Great!! Now Hua Hin will be subjected to the screaming engines of the boat racers...along with trucks and pick-ups with no mufflers...extremely noisy bikes and the never ending thump of bass only sound systems! Can't wait to go there!

Focus on something important, rather than these highly trivial nothings. How about the airport. which is critical? Air Asia has been interested in using Hua Hin as a regional hub, for years now, and all they have ever gotten is neanderthal style foot dragging from the officials here. Hua Hin Airport is one of the least utilized airports in Thailand, possibly even in the world. Shame on these guys. They can do so much better. Thailand desperately needs more regional airports, especially within a few hours of Bangkok. Anything to ease congestion, and save souls from the nightmare of getting in and out of Bangkok has to be a good thing for the nation and it's people. Shame. Shame.

“We will begin by growing the flight base at Hua Hin Airport with a focus on international destinations, and domestic travel and our numbers will take time to grow.  We will get started immediately working with the town and recruit local businesses to participate in our new programs, Open to the World and LIVE-LEARN-WORK-PLAY, in Hua Hin,” Laroche said. Ha! Amusing at best.
