I am flying into bangkok tommorow. I have a one way ticket (with 3 month visa). I know you are supposed to have proof of onward travel, so my question is what is the cheapest/best way to do it. I don't intend to use the ticket so a ticket which gives a partial or full refund would be good. I checked air asia but I can't see any details about their refund policy. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

You do not need onward transportation if you have a visa. It is only when your travel without a visa and want to enter using visa exempt entry that they might check for an onward ticket. A few airlines are unhappy with any one way ticket but if you can show credit card do not believe any would be that big a problem.

Well, I just got back from Suvannboom yesterday. Arrived at same airport week earlier and upon arriving at immigration noticed everywhere a BIG YELLOW BANNER written on it in black was following for everybody arriving to show:

Pls prepare

1. Passport

2. Immigration Card

3. Boarding Pass

4. Return Ticket

I arrived at 1pm ish and queues were long everywhere, probably because only half of counters were open at that time. The immigration lady stamped my passport without questions but looked pretty stressed out. BTW I had to wait at least 30minutes, so long was queue. I asked her then quickly if she really needs to see a return ticket from everybody.

She replied: Depend on person, some people must show.......

That's all I got out of her then next.

Anyway, let me know how it went....seems it really depends on your nationality, previous stamps in passport and on officers mood on that day..... :o

Keep us posted.

Cheers!

I just buy a one year open ticket on Thai airlines. There is about a THB 800 to 1,000 charge to obtain a refund if you do not use it. The refund takes about 2 to 3 months.

That's the same method I used for years going in and out of the US (Houston) on the visa waiver: I kept an onward open ticket to Cancun. After 15 years, the Republic of Bushistan got all anal and insisted either onward or return ticket to your country of birth OR THIRD COUNTRY WHERE YOU HAVE LEGAL RESIDENCE.

At that juncture, I threw all my toys out of the pram and returned to LOS. Here's hoping they keep it (relatively) simple here.
