Phuket Vegetarian Festival Ritual - why is it allowed?

Featured Replies

…..Exactly the same ritual as blood letting in historic Aztec culture……where tongue is pierced and sword through cheeks etc

Some people with axes hitting their back

Completely demonic and suprised

The next step up from this is with Aztecs is animal and human sacrifice.

Actually just last month That statue in Bangkok people were sacrificing cats to it.

No really who'd have thunk that?

Perhaps the poster has seen the hindu festival of thaipusan and mistaken this for a vegetarian festival?

Simple: If you don't like, don't visit it, or look for pictures and video...????

As bizzare and nonsensical as it is to have young children impaling themselves and marching through the street walking on firecrackers it is also a deeply embedded part of Phukets culture.

Not all things make sense. This is one of those things.

Keeping the traditions alive, respecting the values that you being taught is important. I do respect the people that they do follow the ritual of this awkward for us ceremony.Do not attend if you do not like, same as many other events (you are happy with the pride events no?). There is nothing meaningful on this post.....We are residents in Phuket and we should respect the culture here, do not try to stop it (or negative commenting) just get back in your county  and all is good. Drive me nuts when i see people NOT willing to integrate in the community that they have decide to live in.

maybe you’re confused with something else.

if you don’t like it, don’t come.

nobody is forcing you.

They do, they simply don't own up to it.  Need to kill animals to have a good crop harvest.

Harvest = killing plants or what ever they are eating.  Eating fruits & veggies is equivalent to performing abortions on that species.

You must kill to live, whether animal and or plant based diet.   To think other wise is simply denial of the facts.

On topic, if people want to self mutilate themselves, UP2them.  Have you seen some of the piercings & tattoos people get.   Not as extreme but just as silly.
