Controversial Construction: A Mysterious Pool on Na Jomtien Beach

Is it even possible? This question bewilders the residents of Na Jomtien as a large swimming pool mysteriously appears on the pristine shores of their beloved beach. The concerned locals have urgently petitioned the Harbor Department and Najomtien Municipality to investigate this surprising development.

 

On October 8, 2023, following complaints from anonymous locals, reporters descended upon the scenic beach of Na Jomtien, situated between the famed Uncle Sawai’s restaurant and Ton Had beach, reported Thai Rath.

 

The inspection revealed a large swimming pool, not just encroaching but extending onto the beach, nestled behind an unopened hotel or lodging, boldly declaring its private ownership with a sign, "Private Property, No Trespassing".

The site, seemingly new and pristine, was not there two years ago, according to Google Map records. The speedy and secretive nature of its construction raises eyebrows, given the legal and environmental protections generally safeguarding Thailand's coastal areas.

 

In stark contrast, local fisherfolk recall the Harbor Department's stringent regulations, which saw over ten structures dismantled for violating coastal building codes.

How, then, did this pool, seemingly flaunting its existence amidst legal and environmental norms, come to be? Is it a flagrant violation, or is there more than what meets the eye?

Clearly took weeks to build, so everyone is invited to guess where a lot of money was flowing that this construction got unnoticed...

If the chanote goes as close to the ocean as the pool then its legal prolly. 

 

Pools/Buildings under 1.2m height not over 100 cubic meters volume don't need permits.

 

Beach might have been bigger in the past, erosion and seasonal changes happen all the time...

Obviously a slow news story day, believe the beach front property in question of Condos and beach front villas was built in 2008 and publicly re-launched in 2010 under new management, hardly the  " was not there two years ago " comment made in the OP.

Someone with the Right connections and a Big Wallet  got permission from a well Paid Official to do this .

Won't be long now and this will Not end good .  Pool and Official Will be Gone .

Just ask the local government building permit office if it has permission to be built there. If not, remove it. Not rocket science. If it has, follow the money trail.

I doubt the "official" will be gone, he/she will tip those above and get a slight slap on the wrist. The pool will be gone and the government workers will have a fatter wallet.

If your chanote is part of the beach, yes you can. 
 

Just because there's sand doesn't make it public beach.

But you haven't heard the real story. It is actually a navy area, and the pool will be used for sailors attached to the new submarine (due sometime in the future) for their safety and rescue training. The sub will be moored just off the shore.

Beaches start where the title deed ends. Its very often the case that they go inside what people call "a beach". Just because there's sand doesnt make it a public beach. 

 

There are no private islands in thailand, all you can own is a title deed on an island.

Yes, it was so bad that in rainy season the borderstones were part of the ocean due to the beach erosion caused by idiots next door removing the mangrove forest and heavy rain. I had to remeasure the land via land office multiple times until we affixed the borderstones on a long metal pole 8 meters into the ground because the ocean ate them up. 

 

It got better after we installed european/netherland style beach erosion fences.

There are no private islands in thailand, all you can own is a title deed on an island. 

Indeed there are – private islands – for example Koh Nangyuan. As I said, the Marine Department might also take some meters of "your beach"; they did it with mine, even there was – and still is – nice cement markers...
