If you want a reliable provider for overseas TV, then something like PIA and Express are good, they offer specific servers for streaming services, there can be problems from time to time and the provider is usually fast to react. People like Netflix and BBC can easily detect vpn usage,

if you want privacy, mullvad, is the best - and proton. Mullvad is proven to be secure, and proton is swiss based making it secure or you can set up your own on a vps.

It also has full coverage servers in around 75 countries and rising, and essentially a knock out switch which ensures your security if you get kicked out.

Streaming is a breeze and UK companies including the BBC have not noticed me nor has Amazon Prime.

I have to agree with you on that, having tried several VPNs and not being satisfied with any of them, I have now reverted to using Smart DNS Proxy and I'm very happy with it.

On the side note You can also make on your own with a dedicated or vps server, or get a VPN server router or hire an IT expert to setup it for you and place it in your own or your friends, relatives house back home so there will no monthly costs as well and you will even access the local network to share videos or files securely for example.

There is a difference between can and have, when 500 people log in from a single ip,address that happens to be in a data center in docklands or park royal to watch eastenders do you think the beeb don’t notice? They don’t particularly care, restricting access is good enough, for example you can’t get a true 1080 stream using a vpn, but if you are in the UK, you can get a 1080 stream.

I even stream 4k and 8k content over VPN from the us or europe till here (TH).

I used Express VPN and the last three years NordVPN.

No problem to watch 4k content on Disney+, Netflix and Amazone Prime using the US, UK or German Catalogue.

BBC, US/UK/German Netflix/Disney+/Amazone Prime, German, Swiss, Austria, French, Italien TV all no problem with Express VPN or NordVPN.

They do not recognize their IP adresse's as VPN in opposit to other VPN providers.

Oh yes I can. Well it looks pretty good to me when I watch BBC iPlayer or similar on NORD VPN. As good as if I had downloaded it from P Bay @ 1080.

Just looking at today's VPN prices at one provider.. an example below where the first 25 months are half the price it seems.

 

* So are people opening new accounts every 25 months to avoid the doubling of fees by simply extending? Whats the business model here, why would VPN companies expect people to pay more for being a loyal customer and extending membership?

The 1080 shows you get from torrent trackers are capped by UK residents, who can access 1080 HLS streams or use DAB tuners, if you use an VPN you get access to some (upscaled) 1080 streams, as you say they still look good, even the 720 DASH that you can pickup using surfshark are good and reliable.

I had this with PIA. Apparently users suspect that they allow you access to a faster server in the trial period and change to a server with greater traffic after you have signed up, idk if that's true.

 

I trialed PIA, and after a couple of days I wanted to get a refund and buy a proper subscription, the refund service was really quick, when I chatted to support and said, wow! the service is great, he gave me a coupon code. After my first year, I contacted customer chat and asked for a coupon for a loyal customer .. "no can, sorry but what you could do is sign up for a different account" - VPN and seedbox providers are just cowboys.

Ok thanks for the feedback. So Nord seems the best alternative. So you need to pass through a computer to watch TV via a VPN ? Or can a smartTV directly connect via VPN ?

I use both Nord & Vyper through my computer and through my cell. Other than that, it will probably depend on the smart TV and the software they allow to be downloaded. The following is from Google: Yes. You can put a VPN on your smart TV – if the manufacturer and operating system are right. If your smart TV has an app store that features VPN apps, it'll be really easy to set up. In other circumstances, you might need to put in some extra work, like setting up a VPN on a router.

Express VPN long HAD a reputation as one of the best VPN providers in the market. Then a couple years ago, they were bought out by a technology company with a dubious past... Not so sure anymore.... They also tend to be one of the more expensive VPN services out there.

I had a subscription with them for some years pre-Kape, but ended up dropping it a couple years back when my use of their VPN was increasingly recognized and blocked by various streaming service providers that I use.

I like Nord and use them a lot these days.... Their connections are reasonably fast and typically do a pretty good job of unblocking various streaming providers without drawing VPN error notifications.

 

But one thing I find annoying about them, as someone who is pretty particular about what exact VPN server I'm connecting to for various purposes, is that they don't label all their servers by location/city names as is the prevailing practice in the industry, and instead just label their servers with 4 or 5 digit number designations, which isn't especially transparent.

I've had a Surfshark subscription for some years...and it's soon going to expire and won't be renewed... Because at least in my experience, their connections do a very poor job at avoiding "VPN error" blocks from various major U.S. streaming providers like Amazon Prime Video, among others.

Dunno about that... One of the disadvantages of various "Smart DNS" services is that they'll only work with the specific streaming services/providers enabled/configured by that DNS provider...

 

Whereas with a traditional VPN, which gives you an IP address in a particular geo-location, that's going to be recognized as being there by ANY and ALL providers a person might use, regardless.

And a lot of the free ones have bad reputations for tracking their customers internet usage in great detail and selling that data onward to various private parties, thus compromising users' privacy.  There's often a reason the free VPNs are able to be "free."  Because they're getting paid to "sell" their customers.
