Reckless driving causes 1.2 million baht BMW motorcycle crash

All credit to the motorcyclist travelling in both directions, in the short video clip... They are all wearing what appears to be very decent full face helmets and protective clothing.  Unfortunately, this is something that the vast majority of motorcyclists, and their passengers, here in Thailand lack, which all to often results in fatal injuries when involved even in a low speed crash.

After reading your above comment I had to watch the video to ensure I'm not going off my rocker !...  You're definitely a big 'something' anyway...   (jest).   I can't see how the motor

You don't understand.   Solid lines are for OTHER people.   I'm special.

I'm a big biker, been riding Thailand roads for over 20 years, I reckon there was enough room for the bike to keep left, letting the pick up to get back in the lane.    It's Thailand, you go

trouble is most thai riders/drivers are ignorant of the road rules and do as they please, I have lost count of the number of times when driving in the country  we have been going around a blind corner with double lines and had a car or bike coming at us on our side of the road, thais simply do as they please. IN this case the rider was in the right, he was positioned correctly, the car driver just didnt want to be behind him so tried to overtake where he shouldnt has then swerved back in making the bike go down, hopefully he will lose his car paying for what the idiot did

Such poorly skilled drivers here.

Lucky no-one was seriously injured or killed by this idiot.

Exactly my Q.  I never ever give anyone even the chance to catch up with me. Never mind allowing a pickup to pass me.  Likely a slow going group. Sometimes speed kills.  In Thailand often slowness kills.   As a bike you block the lane. First thing they teach you.  Second thing they teach you is to always keep a safety bubble.  Bikers know what that means.

Descending phu tha buek is not to be done at speed unless you want to die early.

Vegan diet????

Why was a big bike going so slow that it wasn't keeping up with traffic?

Thais believe that yellow lines are just for decoration, whether on the road or the side of escalators. The fact they are there as a warning would never occur to them.

Having said that, the errant pickup clearly didn't actually encroach onto the wrong side of the road, but drove onto the lines. His fault was trying to overtake the bike when there wasn't room to do so.

Why is this big biker in the video riding his BMW like a 90cc miniscooter, on the outside edge white stripe, along the inside of a blind curve?

He was driving in the center of his lane.

Which he was actually doing.

there are other cars and trucks in front of the bike, there is no speed to be gained and traffic was moving downhill in orderly fashion until the idiot pickup thinks bikes are in his way and overtake when there's clearly no room

Looks like that is exactly what he was doing to me, with a proper safety gap between him and the 2 cars he was following

He wasn't...  the motorcyclist was in the middle of his lane, just like the other riders ahead of him.

Did you read the full OP?

Yes I read the opening post, I did not follow the link to read more.

Gawd...

What's the point of asking already answered questions if you can't be bothered to read the full report?

is the cost of the bike such an important factor in the accident ???  oh I forget its an overpriced BMW.....

and... I very much hope the pickup driver is caught, charged and made to pay for the damage caused.

That is covered in the full OP.

Thank you.... I had to leave a mistake to give you an opportunity to jump over something...

I know how much you love reading the full Op and criticising those who haven't.

That does beg the question - why do these Opening Posts (articles) never just quote the full Op in the first place... (rhetorical).

Because AN's agreement with the original publisher doesn't permit that.  Obviously, The Thaiger wants AN readers to go to their site and read it so that they get any potential income, not just AN.

Valid point... I'm sure you are providing them with more than sufficient 'clicks' when double checking every link in every thread to load yourself up with ammunition while contributing nothing to the actual topics other than creating an argumentative atmosphere....

Its fine to make a correction - but to make the same correction repetitively on so many threads highlights issues.

You'd be utterly amazed but I'm happily reassured to know that I will never be subjected to your excellent social company.

I appreciate your self-aggrandising permission for me to post those comments and I appreciate your fine, equally self-aggrandising psychological analysis of my "issues", also.

The assurance that you won't so openly make an 'utter' tool of yourself in person is noted !!!

Was driving my rented motor bike in Chiang Mai, when a group of BICYCLES went down hill, ignoring any line.

Guess they were trying to commit suicide.

The truck was taking over on the curve beyond the line. No motorcycle at fault.
