Totally agree! It has been highjacked by a hard core of approx. 12 idiots/Bots/paid for posters who may be increasing the "click count" but are ruining the site!

  • The fun has been lost.   We used to have fun posts about sightings of Michelin men and Mountain Dew and the like.   Now almost every post degrades into pages of off topic bickering

This is over my head.  How does bashing people before everybody sleeps help their reptation count?  I just saw the reputation count a couple days ago and don't have a clue how it is determined.

I suspect the poster to whom you replied was referring to me, given we have had a "strained" relationship on the forum till I put him on ignore,

Alas, some on here don't like to be contradicted.

However, the said poster apparently hasn't considered that some of us live in a different time zone, so no need to get up early to start the "bashing", LOL. I suspect the "bashing" comment refers to me disagreeing with himself, and if other posters wish to put a like on my posts, that is not because I bribed them to do so, but because they may agree with what I said. Also, I've been on here for a very long time, so those likes didn't happen overnight

Unless you put a laugh on every post I make my comment doesn't apply to you.

Don't worry, I won't be around for too much longer for you to be having to ignore me.

The fire waits for me.

Please don't die. You amuse me.

I have never emoji'd the sad face or the confused face.

I leave that to the passive aggressive English. "Not shure wot yer goin' un about" should be printed on the pound note.

Every post written without malice and seeking to inform, rather than offend is a source of learning something we may not have known or understood previously.

Even if they are not specific to Thailand, they are specific to the human condition, so are IMO welcome.

I can keep up just fine, IMO it's the younger generations who seem to have been  behind the door when respect for facts and logic were handed out.

Maybe it's the teaching they get, I've seen people on here who claim to teach  English who can't even spell.

Maybe the old sitting in a room all looking at the teacher talk or write on a blackboard is old fashioned, but I did learn enough arithmetic to understand that if I buy something for 15 cents and I hand over 20 cents I should get 5 cents back, and I learned enough English to read voraciously.

Now of course, money is exchanged digitally so no need to be able to do arithmetic as a machine does that, and don't need to read books anymore as it's all "on line" vdos.

Etc.

It might just be me, but I think it's going to end badly.

Would we want to keep up? I see nothing worth keeping up for and as said a few times before will not be complaining when they pull the plug.

I hear you mate - I only joined because of the story about Thailand taxing Expats remittances, but it has now deteriorated into mainly squabbles and insults.  Likewise, the thread about the Israel War has done the same.  And I just read a thread where a guy is asking about what type of doctor and where to go. Sheryl gave a response but he did not answer her questions, and then he complained when she asks the same questions again. He still has not answered her questions.  It is not just the forum IMO - it is people - since Covid they are far more 'annoying'.

I guess we all joined for varying reasons. I only joined to warn about a scam on Thong Nai Pan Yai beach. I was mainly on the Lonely Planet Thailand forum then, but after the LP was sold and a new unfriendly bunch of mods ruined it I moved to TVF.

I consider everything. The poster I have in mind lives in Thailand or rather enthroned, to speak metaphorically.

Usual paranoia, excessive sensitivity, and delusion of grandeur. I find your posts merely amusing and easy to satirize. Occasionally, though, you come up with something interesting. I'm glad you're around, mostly talking about yourself. 🙂

You may be right, I don't know if the difference between depreciating and appreciating assets is taught anymore. Everyone must have brand new, and it seems it does not matter if they go into hock for decades over something that will be obsolete in a few years.

I've lost count in the village of Thais with brand new pickups, living in shacks.

Agee and Disagree. It IS going wrong right now.  Why do you think all the stupidity exists in the world now, much more than 40+ years ago.

Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Aristarchus and many others in ancient Greece advanced human civilisation more than any other civilisation before and since. The reason is simple - Plato decided that the future 'leaders' should receive an 'education' with the core subjects being Maths, Geometry, Music and Astronomy (after learning how to read and write) in an Academy. This was carried on and became the creator of so much advancement in alll areas of 'science' as we now call it.  Only the 'elite' werre educated and they ruthlessley weeded out those that failed - no idiots or women were allowed. This lasted for hundreds of years and was the bedrock upon which their civilisation grew mankind's knowledge and understanding. Unfortunately they could not fight and they were 'conquered and dispersed'. Next came the Arabs who followed this structured enviroment, until their new religion cruched them. Then it was Europe with Italy, England, Spain and France oppening Universities.

Fast forward to the modern days we are now living in. The core problem right now is that we are educationg our idiots. Since 1980s the eductaion system has been 'modified' to better suit one demographic and the idiots, so much so that they are deominating those that graduate. Instead of teaching only Maths, Science, English and History - our education system is now teaching genders, enviroment, feelings and diversity. Those 'educated idiots' have been taking over the positions of authority since 1980s - and they have been making things worse not better than they were in the past.

Why did the ancient Greeks throw idiots out of their instituions?  Because if allowed to stay the idiots would corrupt the education of the intelligent ones by forcing the teachers to 'teach' to the lowest common denominator (being the idiots).   There is a fundamental fact about idiots - especially educated idiots - they dont know that they are idiots.  Intelligent people are full of doubt and are always questioning how things work and how can they be made better - idiots dont do that - they just try to change things to make them more they way they want them to be,

Anecdotal nonsense.

'More young people are taking science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) subjects at university than ever before, according to statistics published last week by UCAS. Between 2010 and 2020, the number of women accepted into full-time STEM undergraduate courses increased by 49%. In the same 10-year span, the number of UK 18-year-olds from disadvantaged backgrounds accepted into full time undergraduate STEM courses increased by 79% - from 7,265 in 2010 to 13,040 in 2020. These new results suggest that young people are benefiting from increased support in these subjects, with potential barriers to access based on gender, race or class gradually being lifted.

There is no 'modification' of the education system other than a more diverse curriculum that appeals to a greater majority however, this has NOT undermined the 'classics', with greater enrolment for these than at any time in history.

Progressive woke nonsense - justifying the unjustifiable by the vested interested - being that diversity means more than educational outcomes.

I would expect nothing less from any University Admissions Centre anywhere in the world - both heavily woke and a vested interest.

May I suggest you look more broadly when you compare educational outcomes since the 1980s - outside of the current education system?

There are obviously a lot of "feelings" about the direction of the forum as seen by so many posts in such a short time.

A lot of what I am annoyed about I can't say on here, though I have informed admin of my opinions, not that anything changed because of it.

If the forum dies, for any reason it'll be a shame as the information sub forums are a vital resource for people living in LOS, as compared to the , shall I say "opinions" subforums like world news.

Can I live without it? Yes, but after so many years, it's a part of my life which I'll regret losing. However, as I like to say, everything ends, and nothing gets better in this brave new world that we unfortunately find ourselves.

BTW, some comments about how the forum isn't "fun" anymore, but that is true of life today. All the fun things of my youth have vanished in an onslaught of social media ( my pet hate ), PC and wokeness.

I can't even remember the last time I had a really good laugh at anything. Humanity sold its soul for greed, and we are all the worse off for it.

For normal users it looks like it disappeared.

Computer geeks know it's still somewhere in a database and has to be prepared to be shown again for normal users.

Info for normal users: Sorry for the inconvenience. We are working on it. Likely it should work again .... .

I think from your wrong use of the word 'woke' (definition: alert to racial bias and discrimination) to your denial of facts and figures, we can all derive your own, very obvious bias.

I'm not entirely sure how you can 'compare educational outcomes since the 1980s - outside of the current education system?' but you are more than welcome to show us your 'facts' that clearly show 'we are educating our idiots' and that they in turn 'are deominating (sic) those that graduate'. The facts are the 'classics' are seeing higher enrolment than ever, and there's much more competition at the higher ranked universities/colleges. And yes, lesser courses are available but they in turn offer limited career options. After all, there's not too many nuclear scientists knocking around who graduated only in gender studies.

When I lived in the Deep South of the USA, I recall having a super-heated conversation with Trump Trash about the incipient threat of wokeness.

One genius wanted to station volunteer citizen guards outside of Walmart Ladies Rooms in case RuPaul showed up. I was like, "If I dodged jury duty, I can def. dodge that".

This argument was at a church bake sale to raise money for some poor hick's dialysis. They might have raised seventy bucks. As I told them daily, "You rednecks are screwed in the head and too stupid to live".

The socialist country Trump Trash here would not ever like to be in that man's dialysis situation. Even in Mexico, the government would help him. They talk the talk, but they would never walk the walk.

Can you give us a synopsis of Dr Strange? Some of us don't watch comic book movies. Movies that you derive a quote marks lesson from.

You have so much to teach. I'm all ears.
