How Do You Like to Spend 1000 Baht?

Featured Replies

Well, it's been about 5 years (and some inflation) since this was last discussed, so - here goes - what do you like to do with 1000 baht?

Some things that spring to mind:

- a couple bottles of wine

- a pub lunch and a few pints

-  a month's worth of Thai massage

- two week's worth of A/C

- a week's worth of groceries

- a whole rack of ribs in a nice restaurant (or a dinner for 2)

- enough fuel to drive from BKK to Pattaya (and back again)

How about you? How do you like to spend 1000 baht?

A couple of bottles of wine for 1,000 baht?? That's either Thai grape juice, sold as "wine", or the very worst of imported wine; you could as well drink vinegar... Yes, these days I prefer to spend my money on food; either imported groceries, or good food at a restaurant, with the better meat probably imported as well.

No, I haven't. Do they have secret sources? (Again, I have no doubt that one can get 'a' good bottle of wine in Thailand for 1,000 baht, but 'a couple'?)

Apparently. They stock wines that you won't find anywhere else in Thailand,  as far as I know.

He said a couple bottles of wine, not a couple bottles of "good" wine.

Good is completely subjective, so it really means nothing. There are people that think you can't buy a decent bottle of wine for less than $100, nor a bottle of good wine for under $1,000. Others are happy with most anything.

I like Wine Connection...

I like a monthly manicure-pedicure/foot-spa monthly which runs about B1,000 with tips.

You could get a maid to clean your condo 2-3 times a month for a 1000.

Taco Tuesday @ Ojo

Onsen with steam room and plunge pool.

Small bottle of sake, a tempura platter*, and a scallop sushi roll at Umai Sushi in Chiang Mai.

Leaves 100 baht for the doting waitress who tops up the unlimited iced green tea.

2nd choice: Havana Club 7 year old rum. 3rd choice: a book. A book I want to read about Thailand or the new book about The Murdochs usually costs about a grand.

*'Was psyched to learn that tempura is the lowest fat deep fried food you can eat.

An imported meat & cheese platter with bread and a bottle of wine at Wine Connection.

It's called the Sportsman. Can't see myself ever ending up in there either but good to know, thanks. My last Guinnesses were in the Londoner (350-360 I think), Scruffy Murphy's (350) and O'Sheas (can't remember but definitely over 300).

Much cheaper in Pattaya. The Sportsman on Soi 13 has Guinness for 199 one night of the week, and I think it's 220 on the other nights.  The only place I've seen the prices you've quoted were in Patong earlier this year.
