My wife is wanting an EV car and wants a BYD or MG
I have convinced her to get a seal mainly because if i end up driving it i do not want to drive one of those Goodcat ev that she also likes
Much prefer a used Seal for 800k+  than one of those.

i also have noticed that the Seal has dropped in sales and after my wife phoned a local BYD to see if they have a test drive one they said they dont have any or any stock and not sure when they will get more ?

Makes me think a new sedan that's even quicker will be coming soon or the newer version that's already in Aus

Is there a similar sedan Ev with similar performance to a Seal ?

I would say that there isn’t anything in the way of the Seal available right now.

There is the MG IM6 but it is not as sporty as the Seal, the IM5 on the other hand ! but don’t see any reports of that coming here.

The Deepal L07 is headed in that direction ?, haven’t seen many of the sedan ( L07 ) but plenty of the suv ( S07 ). The S05 could be worth a look but again not very Seal like.

Xiaomi could fill the gap very easily if they wanted to !.

I would say the Sealion 7 is as close as you could get right now but there are possibly a few used Seals right now to be had as it comes up to 2 years old.

Maybe there will be some surprises in store for the upcoming Motor Show ?

Very very few, on FB marketplace there are TWO that I could find, but high mileage for such a recent car.

What is high mileage for you? I am preparing to sell my '23 Seal Performance, approx. 23K km, open to non-low ball offers.

35k+ is high for a 2 year old car, especially electrical

23k is more reasonable. Why would you sell it?

I have set my eyes on the Zeekr 7X - cars start to become like phones, always chasing the latest tech........lol

But I know I will have sellers remorse, when looking at the cars tech and build, the Seal is an insane package and punches way over its price class.

Talking about high mileage, some really are more like this: from a FB post, owner claims zero problems

Your driving needs are less than many other folks.  I've had my Atto for 1 year 11 months and have put 48,559km on my car from local driving, an occasional round-trip of 200 to 400km, etc.  And I'm retired...no "driving to work everyday" type mileage.

You and my wife would fit well together, she also cant sit in one place for more than a few hours..........lol

Of the 23k km on the Seal, she probably put on 15K - she has had her SL7 for 5 months and is closing in on 10K fast  :w00t:

Which model Seal are you looking for?

IIRC, you were quite anti-ev's some time ago.  What convinced you to like EV's?

Oh, the wife and I are far from being on-the-go all the time.  We do a far amount of site seeing trips out to around a 200km "radius,", but all the other mileage is just our normal day-to-day/ weekly routine.

Right around 20Km of 48Km we've put on the Atto is due trips to the MIL's house once or twice a week....a 129Km roundtrip.   In fact we just got back from the 2nd trip this week. Plus, it is rare that we don't go to say Lotus, Foodland, or some market at least daily.....with the Lotus and Foodland we use being around a 25Km round trip. All these little trips and the MIL trips (a Happy Wife means a Happy Life) sure add-up fast.  If I didn't have the MIL trips and went to markets a lot closer I would probably only have around 25Km on the Atto right now after 23 months of driving it.

My wife is after one

I am still more into ICE vehicles although like the idea of using one for the short trips and especially since it can be charged with our new solar system for free

I have convinced her to get the performance  Seal  the one that does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds purely because when I occasionally drive one then that is the model I would like to use .

My son is also looking to buy a cheap 2nd hand car and always complains about the PT garage being quite far away since a local garage just closed .

He also mentioned getting a EV knowing he can charge for free with solar and rarely goes further than 100km round trip

And now I am Looking at how much a charger will cost if I install it myself once the solar system is in place

23k sound good seen a few around 49km

I see a few used tesla's and always thought they would be much higher in price for used

I recently visited the UK and a uber picked us up not sure the model but it was quick when i asked him to floor it.

It had a great dash with all the sensors showing bicycles/people walking near the car.
The tech was impressive but he said its not worth much now and outside it looked a bit battered

Not sure which model but i mentioned BYD are popular in Thailand and he said that's his next car

I have the Seal Performance, it's a fine car.  Very spirited with superb handling.

You can get 7Kw chargers with a 32amp plug for a tad over 2,000 baht on Lazada.  I recommend having a local sparky fit you a 32amp industrial socket where you want your changer on a 40 amp breaker.  There should be an RCB somewhere in the circuit from PEA to your charger.  Your sparky will tell you what's possible and what you need.

Maybe the 2025 model is coming to Thailand, available now in Malaysia usually means 2 to 3 month later here. (probably for the car show in December)

Albeit - the interior pictures they show are not of the 2025 Seal........

interior pics from a Chinese website

(edit: maybe this interior never made it outside China, seems in Australia the '25 model also uses the original interior)

We are having a solar system fitted this week and they asked if we want a Ev charger installed

It's at the car port 50m away from.the house and they are going to give us a quote.

What would a good price be ?

a price estimate is hard to give. it depends on whether the cable can be installed through the attic or if a ground line has to be made, and so on. you may also need breakers, maybe a fuse box, the wallbox, etc.

in my case, the installation went through the roof. from the fuse box to the wallbox it was total 18 meters of cable, costing around 6,000 thb for the cables only, without labor cost or any other components ...

the best option is to get a quotation and maybe share the prices here, since this forum has some real experts (not me) who have good knowledge about prices ...

If you have 3 phases, then get a 3 phase charger.

Agreed but always a 3 phase 22Kw charger never a 3 phase 11Kw charger.

ALSO. May need a Voltage Stabaliser (AVR) for that long feed to the carport.

I haven't worked it out mathematically yet but my wall box drops over 20v when the charge starts. My feed in from the Soi is about 60m. I think it's all 25 mm2 Al cable.

Just checked Chat GDP said about 4.2V and 5m of 4mm2 Cu cable 1.4v.   Mmmmm will have to getaroundtuit.

I would check the voltage at the meter when charging too, you could have a weak mains supply (I do).

Thanks, I think this makes a lot of sense. I'll just wait then.

From what google AI told me it was released even a little bit cheaper than the previous model, which would make me kick myself if it came out after I had bought the previous model.

BYD Seal 6 EV Malaysia launch Sept 26 – first market outside China, 218 PS, 330 Nm, 545 km CLTC range

Marginally smaller (and presumably cheaper) than the full-fledged Seal, the Seal 6 EV is built on the same e-Platform 3.0 Evo as the Sealion 7 and is powered by a single rear motor. In China, the car is offered in three variants, with the base model producing 150 PS (110 kW) and 220 Nm of torque and delivering a CLTC-rated range of 470 km thanks to a 46.08 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery; expect a more realistic WLTP figure of around 380 km.

The other two variants receive a more powerful motor pushing out 218 PS (160 kW) and 330 Nm, as well as a larger 56.64 kWh battery providing a CLTC range of 545 km (circa 430 km WLTP). The smaller pack can DC fast charge at up to 84 kW, the larger unit at up to 103 kW; both can be topped up from 30 to 80% in 24 minutes. Unfortunately, AC charging power is limited to just 7 kW, although both variants do also feature vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality at up to 6 kW.

Hey guys,

I just got a BYD Sealion 7. Some days ago they started to roll out an OTA for software version 3.0.

My car is still on Version 1.0 and there is no option to update yet.

What's your experience with OTA updates for the Seal? How long does the rollout usually take?

@idealistic123

congrats on your sealion 7 ... after more than 11,000 km i still enjoy my sl7 awd every time i drive it ...

btw, i have no idea how many days we have to wait for the newest OTA ...

yesterday i installed my very first OTA update, the whole process took about 3 hours ...

i got the sealion7 at the end of january 2025 with software V1.0.0 / 2410, and now i have the newest software V3.0.0 / 2507 ...

i haven’t tested the car or the new software yet ... it's a (too) rainy day ...

Well another price reduction on the Seal ( all 3 variants ) for stock clearance.

IMG_7536.png.653212b756b9f8bdb7abceb9328b82cc.png

But no indication on whether Thailand will continue with the Seal here and sell the minor update version ( 2025 ).

As reported by a few on here already Seals have become increasingly scarce to buy new and the Activity Cars ( Test Drive and Showrooms/Motor Show models have been selling for a while ).

So this announcement:reduction seems a bit late in the day and the fate of the Seal seems still mysterious.
