In recent years, Thailand has made significant strides in various sectors, showcasing economic growth, cultural richness, and technological advancement. Yet oftentimes, our privately-led initiatives that move the country forward tend to be let down if not hampered by our public policy and organs.

 

Poorly thought government policy, restrictive, illogical regulations, and outright corruption threaten to undermine our progress. For small businesses, nowhere is this more true than their interactions with the Royal Thai Police. It is a cross-aisle issue that unites nearly every Thai, we all understand the need for comprehensive police reform.

 

The Thai police force, like many others around the world, has faced scrutiny for corruption, abuse of power, and a lack of accountability. Addressing these challenges demands a collective effort from policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and society as a whole.

 

Thailand, like numerous other countries, has witnessed instances of police corruption and abuse of power. These incidents not only erode public trust but also tarnish the image of law enforcement agencies. There have been many notable cases involving police officers exploiting their positions for personal gain, engaging in illegal activities, and even collaborating with organized crime. Such behavior not only undermines the rule of law but also hampers efforts by everyday people trying to make a living or trying to run a business.

Not just "witnessed": part of day to day operating expenses of businesses.... a "tax" without benefit to the public that drags down economy

A good place to start would be to pay all public servants - including police, Immigration officials & teachers - a decent (livable) salary from the public purse.

 

Next step would be qualifications for entry ie failable exams, properly (externally) supervised. No quals, no job. No regular training updates, no job.

Delusional.

I used to head a sales force of 5000 reps. We had a team of about 40 people in head office designing the incentive programs introduced 3 times a year. I would approve a program, it would be introduced at a massive conference, and by next afternoon the press had found a way to fiddle the incentive program and get more money. Go figure. Any changes you make in the RTP will be counteracted the following day by new corruption programs.

When Gen/PM Prayuth talked about reforming the RTP, the RTP showed that it had the goods on some high level people.  https://aseannow.com/topic/830349-human-trafficking-crackdown-thai-army-officer-faces-13-charges/  Talk of reform became much less bold after that.

 

Of course if the current government is squeaky clean, it has nothing to worry about.

The thing is the accountability are also on the take here 🤔

Corruption is part of the police Culture, as is doing as little as possible without some 'reward' You could double their pay and they would not stop taking bribes, shaking people down or work any harder.
