How many of you did you go to the "alternate" place only to be abused by monkey faces, aging ones and some guy who never even stepped a foot in Thailand but works as a garbage collector in Seattle?

 

You have to admit that this forum ROCKS!

The "other one" gives me epilepsy, and I'm not even epileptic.

Just looking at the home page is annoying enough.

I've seen forums just vanish, so I didn't sweat it either way. I def didn't need to leapfrog somewhere else to have the same conversations.

 

Relatedly, a garbage man in Seattle is making $70K with sweet benifets. So respect.

Not sure which one you refer to, the low brow one? i use facebook also which is a gap filler

I had mixed feelings.

In a way I thought that now I don't waste an hour or two every day on unimportant issues.

But I also missed this forum somehow.

I was too lazy looking for any alternatives.

I don't think there is a real alternative to AN/TVF.

In any case, I had been trying to stop posting on AN for a few years now, obviously without success, so I half wished it had just expired. I have zero interest in starting over on any different internet forum.

 

One thing I did discover is that Al Jazeera doesn't give me enough news after all, and as I refuse to waste my time on local media ( papers or tv news ) or western internet news ( CNN, etc ) I get a lot of information from this forum.

There is only one! Missed it but didn’t bother me as I’m not and never have been a serial poster and have a life… not to denigrate those that haven’t, of course 😋.

The ‘other one’ is a joke forum with tired old expats (mostly) that were banned (repeatedly in most cases) from here and they still think they’re cool and in the best place. Horrible, cheap interface and every thread is laced with expletives and negativity. TV (alright, Aseannow) might be over-modded, but is the dog’s doodahs for news and visa info on this fair land. 

I tried the “ Tiger “ but it is a poor substitute, a handful of posters and far less content.

The “ Door “ is mayhem, ruled by a clique of old timers who want to keep it exclusive and repel any new comers, the conversations are mainly referencing other members and past posts/threads , basically nonsense.

We have got a software update this morning, so ASEAN NOW should be fast loading now. Let us know if yiu still have slow loading pages. Thanks!🙏

Running great this morning until just now, getting slow loading again but now erratic not constant like yesterday.

1/ TVF/ AN is indeed an excellent forum for Thai info, and the DIY etc subforums.

 

2/ overmoderation causes posters to be PO and leave the forum, which in turn reduces the number of interactions, which in turn makes threads less interesting, which in turn makes posters leave, and so on in an ever decreasing spiral till it's hardly worth bothering with.

 

If lack of posters leads to a decrease in advertising, the inevitable result is end of the forum, and if that happens all the interesting and helpful subforums are gone as well as the bickering ones.

What is my solution, you ask? Sorry, but it involves that which we may not discuss.

Perhaps it's just me, but I've never found AN pages to be slow uploading. Any complaints I have are not to do with the speed at which I can see the pages.

Erratic load times, 3-4 seconds sometimes, 10-15 on other.

seems better than it was before.
