This new format really sucks. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs to be reassigned to toilet cleaner.

Can't say that I notice much difference except certain mods are no longer with us (  unless under a different username ) and I didn't get suspended so far.

How many people expect factual information on this site? Ok, in a few sub-forums like DIY or something there might be a useful answer. But mostly I have no high expectations from this forum.

Guys, it's the Lounge, but still.....peace on earth and all that.

IMO the lounge should be harder to get into and anything goes once allowed in. As it is now, it's no different from the Pub.

For a few days the whole format of scrolling down all the subjects and seeing last response was gone and replaced by a selector on the right side of page where you clicked the subject you wanted. It was odd, could be they were playing games.

Everyone has a different definition of anything goes, we each have a threshold where it can't go beyond so you may as well define it beforehand.

What kind of hard to get into and what kind of anything goes?  Like QR codes and Islamic beheadings?

Prediction: The new anything-goes lounge would be like the regular lounge. Danderman's tireless anthropological bar girl research can only fill so much space, even with his effortless batting away of his naysayers.

The only pressing pub versus lounge question I have is:

How does Gammaglobule decide to post stuff in one place or the other?

It's not exactly like we're getting Gamma - the unrated edition- in here.

My point was that there is IMO no difference between the Pub and the Lounge, so why bother having the Lounge? Just about any poster been on here a while will have 100 posts, so hardly exclusive.

A post discussing other forum members has been removed, any member is able to start a thread, if they so chose.

I agree.  Furthermore, while the Lounge is meant to be more relaxed in rules about posts, I would be too scared of getting banned/suspended to post anything controversial in the Lounge.  For example, is it OK in the Lounge to directly call a certain AN member a d*ckhead?

As per the "The Lounge" General Guidelines:

What is The Lounge

This is a more relaxed part of AseanNow.com forum, where a member who has achieved 100 posts, ( this is to stop newbie sign ups trolling) automatically gains access. The idea is that the rules are still in place but the Administrators and Moderators will be more lenient applying them.

Posts that are not strictly Thailand related can be posted here. Posts with a slightly more adult (grown up) nature are allowed (but be sensible). It's a place where humor and banter is accepted. A place where the community can share and discuss topics which don't quite fit in the rest of AseanNow.com

Personal attacks and posts of an obvious abusive nature are not acceptable and you may be asked to leave "the Lounge".

Enjoy the relaxed informal forum.

I'm not questioning moderation (a no-no subject!). But if the Lounge allows posts with slightly more adult content (and so on), would any poster dare to go down that path?  I think not because what is acceptable in the Lounge is down to the opinion of the mods.  For me, I treat the Lounge as Community Pub 2, with exactly the same rules and content as the Community Pub.

IMHO, the Lounge should have a far greater post count (>1,000+) and it should be 'anything goes'.  Otherwise, (again IMHO), the forum would be better off closing the Lounge sub-forum 🙂

All I see is that the Lounge has threads about Rape and sex at all male boy schools 😞

Hardly a nice relaxing place to visit with those two threads leaping out at you. All other threads seem no different to the community pub so also don't see the point of the Lounge?

I stay out of both places if I can, they seem like somewhere that's an excuse to be, just to fight, shock and behave badly. And I think that behaviour spills over into the main forum, as we see all too often.

I see childish bickering but no fights or shocking posts. But I do see (time after time) inane posts from the same forum member who simply trolls. Quite why he is still a member of the forum is beyond my comprehension. ..

So someone starting a thread about sex at an all boys school is not shocking?

Or a thread about no-one needs to rape in Thailand because sex is 500 baht as if rape is only about sex. Is that not a shocking determination?

Agree with the troll poster comments. I ignore their posts but their constant threads keep showing up because threads are not blocked

Point taken - the content of the post does not personally shock me, but I agree that the content is definitely very unsavoury.

Who is to say who is a troll and who isn't, the line is not that clear cut.

I think it's pretty clear to everyone except the mods who the trolls are 😉

Your definition of troll doesn't necessarily agree with others. There are some very clear cut trolls and they get dispatched frequently, there's a lot of effort goes on behind the scenes, that you don't see, to combat such things. But some people sit right on the line and despite scrutiny and debate amongst ourselves, the answer is not always clear. If in doubt, we do nothing, people deserve that.

Might I suggest the content of the Lounge is only visible to those who log into the lounge and that all lounge posts be removed from the all activity option which I use a lot!

If that was possible it would remove my major frustrations with certain posters and their content/output!

That's certainly one option and a good one at that, there are however some issues to consider. There's a backlog of software and technical tweaks outstanding, it seems unlikely you solution could be feasible in the short or medium term. The other aspect is, there's an ignore function that I think works really well, I don't understand why posters don't make better use of it.

So forget the "troll" issue, why are made up speculative threads about Rape and "sex at an all boys school" allowed to exist at all. Isn't anything illegal forbidden from being discussed?

Thanks for your response and I understand the time constraints etc!

The ignore function, as far as I know, only stops you seeing his actual posts but not the topics he has started and the replies to the topic/posts!

Back to deciding who is a troll? There are a few threads now that have absolute hatred posts telling a poster never to post again. This is now common on every thread he posts. Does that not mean he is a troll looking for clicks (which is what he admitted to doing) or is he such a hated individual that he is destroying forum fun?

Either way, negative outcome for all

"There are a few threads now that have absolute hatred posts telling a poster never to post again".

This is a policing issue, if I saw anything like that I would act, the problem is there are so many posts and so much going on at times that it's difficult to see even a majority of posts. Dealing with an unruly poster can take 10 or 15 minutes, repeat offenders can take longer because of IP checks etc. We're all volunteers but often many of us put in full 8 or 10 hour days at times. Despite that, we don't see everything which is why the report button is so important.

Remembered my mum saying if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all 😀

The troll term is used too losely, I've often found those calling people trolls are trolls. The guys who are criticised for posting too much, i don't see it as a problem, just ignore it and or put the poster on ignore, some people like those threads and posts

I thought you were doing really well, don't stop, if you 've got something to say, say it, now's your chance.
