I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. People got on my ignore list for persistently failing to attempt that.

I have read several of your posts, especially about the events in Israel/Palestine, and although I have a different opinion on some of the points you raised, I didn't feel the need to contradict you, because you didn't post anything that was blatantly wrong.
So we have a difference of opinion, I respect that, it's something we could talk about, which is very different from someone else posting false information and then, when proven wrong, instead of acknowledging it just puts any contradictors on his ignore list and continues on his jolly way posting disinformation.

How many people expect factual information on this site? Ok, in a few sub-forums like DIY or something there might be a useful answer. But mostly I have no high expectations from this forum.

By false you mean things you disagree with, yes?

I think this is the funniest post (so far) of 2024, keep them coming!

Politics and religion, there's a good reason why these topics should be avoided at family get togethers. Strangers have no reason to keep it civil, they don't need to pretend.

It's when the two meld that the real problems begin.

I think that this is exactly the kind of attitude / post that the moderators are talking about. tgw made a valid, well thought out, sensible, intelligent, mature post that had zero conflict and you (whether intended or not, but probably yes) ridicule it.

What I object to is the lack of any serious effort to prove I'm wrong. I think I said recently in a post that the person who claims he is right is most often wrong. I post arguments, I never claim I'm right. If I disagree with a post I will say why and back up my opinion with links where I believe there is a risk of being challenged. What is intolerable is personal attacks such as you have engaged in right here.

What about people who are here just for laughs?

Should I have to listen to such dull, going nowhere dross from (usually) Brit coma-victims?

There's a Biden might win thread. And a lot of bland posturing about polling and what it means. From unknowing losers sitting in rice paddies in Issan.  Caveat: I am no better.

Why try to be Wiki? What movitates you dullards?

As I said above: On the internet, be funny, provocative, or gone.

"Mature" posting -shoot me now.

Free Speech doesn't mean that anyone can say anything they like, in any way they like, using any language they like. Even free speech has guidelines and rules.

Problem is when one person has a view based on what he reads about from a country which he has no ties with, another person has a view based on actual experience living the moment.

Thousands of academics post opinions about other countries where they know far more than the denizens on average.

Most people that talk about free speech (probably including me) have no real idea of what the term means. It's typically a right for free speech towards a government, something that's not really a thing in Thailand because of two main laws. There is no such thing as a right to free speech on a commercial web forum.

I'd guess that at least 50% of my posts are in jest, and you know what the great thing is... no, you don't have to be here and listen to anything dull. However, if all you do is ridicule and post the most childish, confrontational bs then you'll just find yourself in an echo chamber of likeminded retards.

No, you make a good pretense of following the facts wherever they lead and probably delude yourself that you do. But in fact you only read superficial news you agree with and only from "approved" leftist sources. If the source isn't approved, its points will be ignored and the well-supported primary sources it quotes will also be ignored. Selection bias at its most pernicious.

Hence there's no point in discussing anything with you.

It should replicate bar stool philosophizing. Light, jokey, p-taking.

Not painstaking, earnest debate with ex-mongers who can barely fog up a mirror.

It's been a education here to see how many expats love stuff like JoeRogan/Jordan Peterson, Covid conspiracies, stopping the trans-menace. And it mirrors my real life experience meeting other fellow boomers here.

To paraphrase Julie Burchill talking about Stephen Fry " It's a dumb person's idea of a smart person".

Blissed out as I am here in cheapskate paradise, I am hard-pressed to toss these non-issues even the merest thought. So for those chats, I def retreat to an imaginary echo chamber to dodge them.

It's interesting to me sociologically that such privileged old whities pick these very odd hills to die on. Euro's with plush medical insurance loving Trump is another baffler.

It's like Maslow's pyramid in reverse. The happier they get, the more butt hurt they feel.

Not at all, I'm attacking your claim that people who don't come from or live in a particular country can know nothing about that country. It's a ridiculous notion.

That you think someone being an academic makes their opinion more valuable, or even better informed is just your opinion, yet you state it as a fact.

A lot of that here.

fact and fiction : Hiding behind “Somebody” still doesn’t solve the problem of Passive aggressive abuse by some, it

is a continuation of trolling. Just because the team decided to  assign a incognito name doesn’t  make it any less abusive.

taking increased liberties :

Put a headline on top of each thread ,

Such as a particular rule that is abused

This forum hasnt changed  much , still censoring sources & the trolls keep trolling

opinions with insults , deflecting  & changing topics.
