Onlookers in the vicinity of Phuket International Airport yesterday were treated to an unexpected spectacle of dark smoke rising into the sky.

Fear not, Phuket Airport General Manager Monchai Tanode clarified that the source of the smoke was a routine fire drill conducted by the airport’s Fire and Rescue Department.

Monchai, in his role as the general manager of Phuket Airport, shed light on the situation. The airport’s Fire and Rescue Department, along with officials from the medical department, were participating in their inaugural fire-extinguishing exercise for the fiscal year 2024.

Monchai insisted it was no random display of pyrotechnics but a carefully planned initiative aimed at equipping firefighting personnel with the necessary skills and experience for field duty.
