Officers from the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau arrested a Thai man in the southern province of Prachub KirKhan for possessing and selling spycam pornography and found 60,000 files of pornography in his possession.

The Internet Crimes Against Children Unit of the High-tech Crime Division received a complaint about the Twitter account KingSpy ราชาแอบถ่าย. The account invited Twitter users to join a group on the LINE application under the same name and pay the 150 baht membership fee to access the spycam porn.

The LINE account had nearly 600 members and several pornographic videos recorded with hidden cameras were shared in the group. Some of the victims in the videos were children.

The administrator of the group was identified as a 26 year old Thai man named Nattaporn, who was arrested at his home in Prachub Kiri Khan province on December 12. He confessed to selling the spycam pornography, but it was not reported whether he had recorded the explicit videos himself.

Lock him up and throw away the key!

Are you from the US like me? He should be given a harsh sentence, maybe 6 months or 1 year, in a tough prison. Then remind him that a second offense will involve a much harsher sentence. We need to get over this idea of "locking people up for life" for what are essentially mistakes in judgement. People should be given a chance to reconstruct their lives after such a mistake and become better citizens. Make the same mistake twice, and you have proven that you do not learn, then we decide you need to be removed from society.

These human dumpsters rarely if ever make a “ error of judgement “ they take a calculated risk in the belief that they are more clever and WILL getaway with it.

So why in your estimation should they be given another chance to profit in any way from the scourge of pedophilia and or the disgraceful sick minded intrusion into people’s privacy.

We should be able to go to the bathroom or stay in a hotel room etc without having to fear that there may be a camera concealed somewhere filming our every move.

It begs the question How would you feel if you or your children were the subject in a movie of this sort.

If it were me I can assure you that I would want to do much more than throw away the key.

At least he got a right name: Nattaporn.

Thanks RTP.🙏

Very reasonable arguments. First, might I say that I would prefer my child be subjected to this crime as opposed to killed in some shooting event. So there is the question of the outcome. Yes, some children will be harmed mentally, others not so much. I was subjected to something very similar at the age of 11, and it was nothing for me. Just a stupid event. Each person will react differently. However, since we cannot dismiss the potential for mental and emotional harm, we must be err towards caution.

I think what you are suggesting is that each case needs to be handled with perspective. For instance, if this guy were 16 years old or 19 years old, I would be more inclined to call it a stupid mistake. But this guy being 26, I would expect more maturity and be less inclined to think he is deserving of the second chance. But I do believe most people think second chances are good, because who has not made a mistake. But they need to have merit.

Maybe some research showing the rate of recidivism, age, history, and other factors to decide which crimes are treated more leniently for first offenses, and which are not. I believe this is already done, but I do not know to what extent.

I have been accused of being too optimistic, especially with regards to people, so take my bias into account.

If you don't have at least an amount of optimist, paired with a good helping of realism then we might as well all give up now.

The US "justice" system is all the proof we need that the harshest of penalties do little or nothing to dissuade those that will commit crime, especially in our youth. There has to be a better solution, but I'll leave that up to the real brains while I get hammered on cheap booze.
