To help offset the cost of language lessons for the staff, and the training to deal with endless Western whining. :)

Fluent Thai speakers had to pay the Non Thai price .

We were Fluent in Thai , no need to speak English

The staff at the hotel could barely speak any English , reporting TM30s is free and takes minutes , I don't use more air con than a Thai would and I would have to pay for any damage caused . Thais see

So, by your logic, foreigners who speak Thai should get Thai price.

By my logic, I think private businesses that should be able to charge whatever they want.

Air con? 7 elevens are usually freezing. Inter provincial busses the same. Sleeper train the same. All accommodating mostly Thais, who want it that way.

The aircon is to keep the food fresh, not to make it comfortable for the staff.

You mean all the non perishables? Cans, tins, packets, dried food....... 7 eleven do have fridges.

Not forgetting the plethora of good on busses and the sleeper train.

Who mentioned staff?

You are talking rubbish.

No. You clearly differentiated by language spoken.

I think if I have to endure hearing non-Thias that are "fluent" in Thai attempting to communicate to the Thai staff that are trying to communicate with the non-Thai in English because they don't know what the fu*k they are saying I should get a discount.

You ever see the size of the refrigerators, and how often the full-height doors are opened and closed in a day? Ever feel all that cold air pouring out? Did you think they pump it back in? They do not.

Oh, I totally forgot about "...the plethora of good on busses and the sleeper train."

You need get a grip Homer. I said there was any number of reasons a business might want to charge non-Thais more, including not wanting the business.

One being language. The others being un proven.

Struggling, aren't you?

Hence the need to pick up on a Typo.

Tell me, why are shopping malls crowded with Thais just sitting about not buying anything?

It's the air con. Thais love it.

What does "on being language" mean?

What others are you talking about?

Is it quite common for hotels to have dual pricing ?

During the covid period Thais were given vouchers from the government, an incentive to get local tourism moving.

Maybe the hotel can claim some offering from the government having Thai guests.

The hotel staff couldn't speak English, so why should I pay for them to speak English ?

In which case the extra is compensation for having to deal with a person that doesn't speak the same language as them. :)

So there should be 2 tick boxes.

1. Thai.

2. Foreigners who speak Thai.

Maybe there was but he couldn't read it. :)

See what I mean about endless Western whining.

Is there a forum poll for Western Whiner of the year for Nick to win?

Oh dear.

You really are struggling.

I actually edited that post 13 minutes ago. You quoted it 12 minutes ago. You must have been sitting there thinking hard about your reply. 🤣🤣🤣

The marketing area may make note of different types of customers. Local Thai customers are down. Tourists and other farang bookings up but still empty rooms. Have promotion to increase Thai customers.

All I can see is him answering questions and countering ridiculous claims.

He's pointed out, more than once, he withdrew his custom and spent the money on something more worthwhile. He seems content with the outcome.

If it was a regular hotel, maybe.

A five star hotel would be foolish to alienate foreign customers from  who have money to spend.

You don't understand, both parties could speak Thai , both my side and the hotel side could speak fluent Thai , no need to speak English .

But I do think that 5 * hotels should have staff that can speak various different languages

I intended to stay in a 5 star hotel toning and found one for 4,111 Baht for the night and I went to book and it stated the price was for Thai Nationals only.

I looked at the same room unticking the "Thai National" box and the room was 5.600 Baht .

Thats the first time in Thailand that I've experienced dual pricing and I decided not to use that hotel tonight or any other night .

Like , why should I pay more for a room than a Thai would ?

I would have thought the best place to raise the complaint would be with the online booking platforms that feed the hotel (where Western values prevail and the abject fear of being exposed for aiding such tacit racism/discrimination would lend far more weight)

When I lived in Wyoming, it was very common for hotels to offer a much lower price when I checked in using my Wyoming DL.

In the summer tourist season, they weren't so happy to see me.  But locals kept them in groceries in the winter months when tourism dried up.

So it's not just a Thai thing.

A lot of venues in Thailand gave me a huge discount when I showed them my WP.  I suspect they realized that, unlike a tourist, I'd probably come back again and again, perhaps for years.  So their customer acquisition cost was much lower for locals.  And I knew about the deals to be had at other venues.  Most tourists didn't even know those other venues existed.

You don't understand. It's Thais and their business model. Westerners would never do such a thing.

Except maybe the Australian owners of Siam Ocean World etc etc etc etc.

This 5* hotel is purely Thai owned and managed, right?
