5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx
Has anyone managed to get a bank account on the DTV? I saw on Reddit that for many people it was a little problematic. I just applied for the certificate of residence here in Chiang Mai and hope to get it within a few days, so maybe that will make it easier to get an account. -

Yes, and it stands on the menu. We all know about this, and it´s only a issue for you. Actually they have the same system in many countries. -

Language to Use When Mailing Letters from US/UK/AUS to Thailand
English and Thai are clearly very different languages, whether written or spoken. I want to vote absentee in the upcoming US election, but I'm not sure how to write my address here in Thailand so that the ballot (or any other mail) actually reaches me. If I write my Thai address in English, will the local Thai post office know how to deliver it when received from the USA? On the flip side, if I list the address in Thai will the US Post Office know what to do with it? I also don't believe I am able to cut and paste Thai characters into the ballot request form anyway, so the first part of the question likely is more relevant. Does anyone have experience mailing things from the USA/UK/Australia to Thailand, and, if so, do you write your local address in Thai or English? -

iPhone 16 Launch Draws Large Crowds in Thailand
I think being impressed by what model phone you're using is a thing of the past. They all look so similar now, and all have such high specs, that nobody really cares anymore. I can't even remember the last time somebody asked me which phone I'm using. I remember when it was still the days of the iPhone 6, 7, and 8 and people were more interested in the models because the specs could vary significantly. But now, as an example, the difference between an iPhone 14 and an iPhone 16 are just a few incremental, but non-critical hardware updates. I also think most people who use iPhones are on a 3 to 4 year update cycle. Thus, it is very unlikely that anyone who bought a new iPhone within the last couple of years would be interested in the newest model that just came out. Having said that though, there are an estimated 300 million iPhones still in use, of the total 1.5 billion iPhones in use, which haven't been updated in the last 4+ years. This is the largest number of old iPhones still in use to date. Apple normally sells about 230 million new iPhones every year. So this year could prove to be one of the biggest phone update cycles for the iPhone thus far. Of course that remains to be seen as to whether people will continue on with their older iPhones and not upgrade. But, presumably, many of those people seen lining up for the new iPhone are ones who are using an iPhone now that is at least 3 to 4 years old. -

The annoyance of the ++ prices
I never eat at any establishments that impose a service charge and don't clearly show any compulsory taxes/VAT. It is also totally up to me to tip or not, based on the service... -

BBC Admits Past Lapses in Addressing Celebrity Misconduct
In my lifetime I wouldn't like to think how many news presenters there have been. What I do know is, to my knowledge, less than 0.1% have been convicted of crimes against children. -

PM Faces Pressure Over Thaksin's Alleged Hospital Fake-Out
To become an electrician, plumber, carpenter or mechanic following the traditional route one would expect to serve an apprenticeship of around 4 years including studying at a technical college maybe one day per week to obtain a formal recognised qualification. Yet it appears anybody with no experience whatsoever can simply slip into the position of prime minister . easy as that. Its not just in Thailand either, we are currently no better off in the UK and have not been so for as long as I can remember. Currently we have a lawyer sat in the hot seat , before him it was some sort of an investment banker. I don't really want to look any further back in time. What is it that makes these people feel qualified to fill such a position? or indeed makes those that put them there feel the same way? I know she's " square faces" sister and he's pulling the strings and making all the decisions etc but it just seems a bit weird to me that totally unqualified people with little to no experience are not only allowed to hold such positions but that they appear to be accepted and taken seriously on the world stage by other politicians many of whom have been at it for years. Personally I wouldn't trust any of them to be capable of completing the most mundane of tasks even making a decent cup of tea. No wonder the world is in such a mess On the other hand I might just have a go myself, can't see that I, or anybody else for that matter would mess up any worse than the current lot -

I Love Donald Trump
Trump can be all that in your eyes, but he will fail in everything/almost everything. In 2016 he promised to solve the Middle-East problems: he failed (he made it worse, by recognizing Jerusalem as capital). He promised to open coal mines, he failed. His China trade war, costed 300,000 jobs and 128 billion. He is just a narcissist braggart! He said he will leave Nato. He won't. But he want got give Ukraine to Russia: because Russia got compromising sex videos of Trump. So, the no 1 enemy of USA got Trump in his pocket: Donald Trump's 'prostitute scandal' was filmed by cameras and recorded with microphones hidden behind the walls - World News - Mirror Online He promised to lower the US debt: he failed already before Covid started -

You are right about this, I have one of these memberships and know that 30% discount is more like 20%, but this is a bit beyond the scope of this thread. -

The annoyance of the ++ prices
It has nothing to do with being able to afford to eat. I perfectly well can. You may not have understood that my issue is about informing customers what they may expect.
