The Ministry of Industry is advancing a plan to establish the country as a key halal hub in ASEAN, with Industry Minister Pimphattra Wichaikul set to discuss this initiative with officials in Saudi Arabia, one of the largest halal markets globally.

Pimphattra is scheduled to meet with authorities from the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), focusing on standardization-related matters.

The government’s plan also includes developing a Halal Economic Corridor across the southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, Satun, and parts of Songkhla. This corridor aims to enhance local livelihoods and expand various halal products and services, encompassing food, fashion, and tourism.

The ministry expects that halal-related businesses will contribute to a 1.2% increase in the country’s industrial sector GDP within three years. The global market value for halal businesses is projected to reach $2.32 trillion in 2023, up from $2.1 trillion in 2021. In 2022, Thailand’s halal food exports were valued at 213 billion baht, accounting for 2.7% of the global market.

The industry minister’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, involving discussions with SASO about minerals in clean energy, also underscores Thailand’s dedication to growing its global halal market presence.

What's with this Thai fixation on hubs?

it's enough to make you want to hub yourself in the head.

What is halal services fashion and tourism?  Nothing they wont pander to for a few more bhat, even the cruelty and pointlessness of halal. Halal certification is noting more than a scam, it's even on some bottles of water!

Perhaps more and more Muslims are coming into government

Halal certification is a tax which often goes to fund terrorism.  Is it in Thailand's interest to finance Muslim terrorists who already are slaughtering people in the South?

Halal slaughter is brutal and needlessly cruel.  Hardly appropriate for a Buddhist country, the religion of which is based upon compassion for all life.

Like many countries, more muslims occupy the country.

Sounds Kosher to me.

Your rant is not kosher.

It's not a rant, but simply a statement of fact.  If you think otherwise, try educating yourself.  I'd suggest starting by reading the Koran, a book that Muslims believe is the literal word of their god - a book packed with murder, rape, paedophilia, blatant racism, &c. ,&c., all headed by the religion's prophet who Muslims believe is the perfect man and role model.

You are not aware that Thailand had forcibly annexed parts of the South that was the Muslim Kingdom of Patani into the Kingdom of Thailand as well as complete Thai governmental subjugation of Islamic culture, traditions and language?

So yes, hardly appropriate. But like Russia's forced annexation of Crimea, provided free access to the resources of the Muslim Kingdom.

Maybe will do better with this than the hub of the internet, hub of AI, hub of coding, hub of XXXXXX fill in the blanks.

Of course it does, the fake prophet tailored his religion to appeal the Jews, no mr piggy along with fasting, as well as multiple daily prayers and claiming he was  in the lineage of Abrahamic prophets. Their rejection of his nonsense is one of the reasons islam opposes Judaism so much, along with the fact that a Jewess poisoned the fake prophet, the day after he had wiped out her whole family.

This same racist trope was tried on in Australia. Halal certification cost a tiny fraction of the product price and rakes in much more revenue than it costs the food industry. It never results in higher prices. It does not go to fund terrorism. The governments in all countries track that stuff. sheesh.

It's true that retribution against Jews occurred in the Prophet's time in Medina

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_Islam

see: Constitution of Medina ff

As for your characterisation of the Koran, I will refer it to my classmate, an historian of early Islam - to be continued.

Anyway, the Old Testament has episodes of genocide and other repugnant acts perpetrated by the "Chosen People", and Netanyahu is evoking such a genocidal episode (Amalek) to advance his campaign of revenge (to keep himself in power as long as possible).

BTW Being a halal hub has some economic sense for Thailand in view of the large potential market, while the kosher market is not worth it.

Retribution? No!  Retribution is in response to some sort of attack.  It's also a massive understatement of what happened under Mohammed.

Consider the case of Banu Qurayza (a Jewish community).  All the men and adolescent boys were beheaded, and all the women and children taken into slavery (and slavery here includes sex slavery.)  No one knows how many men were murdered.  Estimates range from 300 to a thousand or more.  And all because the Jews refused to accept Mohammed as a prophet in the line of the Jewish prophets.

I checked your link, as well as the link I provided earlier. The judgment was pronounced by Sa'd ibn Mu'adh whose mother was from a Jewish clan. According to your link, the scholar Ling opines: "Sa‘d's judgment was no doubt directed mainly against their treachery; but in fact it coincided exactly with Jewish law as regards the treatment of a besieged city, even if it were innocent of treachery: When the Lord thy God hath delivered it unto thy hands, thou shalt smite every male therein with the edge of the sword: but the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself. Deuteronomy 20: 12."

The links do not support your contention that the siege was motivated by this Jewish tribe refusing to accept Mohammed as a prophet. Rather their behavior was considered a treasonous violation of the Constitution of Medina (see my link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitism_in_Islam - section headed "Hostility between Muslims and the Banu Qaunuqa" final paragraph).

While this is an interesting discussion, it has gone way off the subject of Thailand as a hub for Halal food production.

The contention is very well supported.  This is simply the first source I could find.

Quote

624-627    Muhammad attacks Jewish Arabian tribes for refusing to convert to Islam. Eventually the Southern Arabian tribes are destroyed.
626    While proselytizing Arabia, Muhammad captures the Banu Kurara tribe and forces the group of about 600 to chose between conversion and death. After spending all night praying, all but three or four Banu Kurarans are beheaded.

Please identify the source of this quote in your post:

Thanks.
