An International British Teacher Arrested for Luring Minors to Commit Indecent Acts in Pathum Thani

Not sure if individuals convicted of sex crimes and sex crimes against children in Thailand are necessarily at higher risk of physical violence from other inmates as they are in the West. Not saying that Thai inmates are more tolerant of sex crimes, just questioning whether the common belief that sex crime inmates are at high risk of being killed or injured by other inmates is applicable to Thai prisons. If anyone has any insights into Thai prison culture regarding this matter, please comment.

This behavior is not limited to a certain nationality.  I'm an American. I take no joy in hearing that the accused is British. The United Kingdom has always been a loyal and steadfast friend to my country. I dont understand the constant nation bashing that goes on here. I wish the moderators/management would put a stop to it.

Its a fact that's why its reported and it generally all nationality's not just British

point well taken. when i was doing my education there are a few things i learned that i first scoffed at. i was told NEVER to have an interview with a student alone in a room with the door closed. this is one thing i have witnessed over and over in thailand... thai and foreign teachers fraternizing with students in ways that defy the ethos of teaching. as a teacher you must not only protect the students but also yourself.

maybe it was the fear of teachers and their sticks, or maybe it was the buddhist attitude towards teachers that has protected teachers against having accusations being made against them, but with today's teen mentality i am sure we are going to see more and more cases of misconduct against teachers just as we see in the west. being a teacher in the west today is a very difficult thing especially with things like the right to use any pronoun or to be any gender under the sun.

this guy apparently confessed to the crime and needs to face the music. but thailand not only needs a serious change in its curriculum and how it is delivered, but it specially needs changes in its teacher ethos. it truly is time that thailand wakes up and starts treating teaching as a serious trade and it is high time the teachers stop acting like clowns

Did you not notice he was a farang teaching in an *international* school ?

The guy confessed.

Given the Thai police propensity for interrogating very enthusiastically, I suspect pretty much anyone would confess - particularly with a black plastic bag over their head*.

The article actual reads "Initially, the suspect reportedly confessed" which suggests that he may well have recanted his confession, even if the actual report is accurate.

* OK, Jirapong Thanapat didn't confess.  He simply died from suffocation.

yes, i did. but we are in thailand. i worked in a few international schools and i can tell you first hand that there is a high percentage of non qualified/certified teachers working in thailand. unfortunately i cannot name and shame these schools. also, i have witnessed many foreign teachers in international schools with very ***RELAXED*** ethos. unprofessional conducts are not just a thai thing. also, i have seen many teachers with kao san road degrees. although there seems to be fewer and fewer there are still some out there.

With all the dangers to children in the world today parents have an expectation and believe   children should be safe when in the care of the school.

If I were a murderer, I would become a doctor. If I were a thief, I would become a policeman. If I were a pedophile, I would become a teacher.

These are all cover professions.

20 years prison in a regular Thai prison (not the same as Thaksin's)🙏

At least,  husband of Mrs friend (Thai) got that for abusing 2 girls in his school 12 years ago, he's still in there. They don't get off with a fine and a wai.

Well one pervert less in schools teaching young children

Speedster  time in jail and deport back to the UK

How many are left in place?

I once saw a foreign teacher slap a thai boy on the ass for doing something wrong. I hardly could believe my eyes, as the kids just got on as it was normal.

I don’t understand how someone could do that and not realise that they will eventually get caught? If it turns out he is guilty he deserves everything he gets.

Apparently the perverted urge overpowers common sense and rationale. Consequences be damned!

He will be doing quite a bit of time for that and he won't like it once he gets inside, I bet.

Why not?

I am sure the other prisoners will fulfill his sexual desires in the lunch breaks.

I have been teaching at a university for over 20 years and I have probably heard of at least 10 cases where Thai male teachers at upcountry secondary schools have asked girls to "help clean their offices" and have raped and abused them. When the girls get too old they choose a new victim.

I have had two students confess that it happened to them, but they never complained "as most people knew about it anyway."

I spoke with my wife about this incident as our son's school has a few farang teachers, when I asked about Thai prisons, she said the other inmates treat pedos that rape children as their b*$*#h, she said child rapist becomes the prison wife(I guess they are on the receiving end of sex) as they are not real men, but not sure how it's handled when the pedo is a farang.

Well, if not, someone needs to start a GoFundMe for Thai prisoners willing to help get the job done.

the suspect reportedly confessed his wrongdoings before being escorted to Thanyaburi Court for further legal processing for committing an indecent act to minors under the age of 13.
