Can I take ten joints in a domestic flight?

Featured Replies

I'm planning to go to Koh Samui by flight in February and intend to take ten joints in a cigarette pack. I have a hunch that it must be illegal in flight under some regulations, but how severely are they enforced, and what is the maximum fine I could expect for that? I know I can buy them in Koh Samui, but I need to have some supplies with me for the strains I like before I explore Samui and find some to my liking. By the way, are there any nice ganja cafes in Samui?

Don't take cannabis on flights. Too risky, and unnecessary as you will find what you need in Samui.

As discussed on this forum many times it's not illegal and many people have done it.

If the smell coming out of your bag though is strong then that may cause some problems. If you can vacuum bag it first to get rid of the smell then that could be best.

The other alternative is to mail it to yourself by Thai EMS postal mail before you leave for Samui and then it should be at your hotel waiting for you when you arrive.

Doesn't Thai EMS require you to declare the content? Can I declare marijuana? Is it legal to mail weed?

You are usually only asked to declare the contents of a package when you are shipping something internationally to somewhere outside of the country. This is for Customs declaration purposes. I've sent things EMS many times domestically and have never been asked what's inside the parcel.

Many licensed Thai cannabis sellers also ship their weed through the Thai postal service to their customers in Thailand on a daily basis. And the post office knows what their business is and what they are shipping, so mailing it cant be something illegal.

Perhaps the cannabis vendor you bought from might be willing to send it for you through the Thai postal service if you offer them a bit of money. Then you don't have to deal with it yourself.

What is it exactly that you think is illegal?

Discretion is generally valued in Thailand. There is no issue as long as you stay in the Kingdom.

Took weed many time in local flight (last time was in a Samui flight in November), strong smell coming out of my bag every time I remove my laptop for security, no problem so far.

If you are uncomfortable bringing your weed with you there is plenty of weed seller in Samui (I did not test them since I bring my own).

Vacuum bag it first and you will have zero smell. You can get a cheap vacuum sealing machine on Lazada for 300-500 Baht. Vacuum bags are around 1.5 to 2 Baht each on Lazada (depending on size) for the higher quality 220 mil thick bags.

Vacuum bagging your cannabis will also allow you to keep it fresh for a much longer time than in ziplock bags, grove bags, or mason jars.

Yeah, smoke some as long you can on a flight. Maybe the pilot will change the destination and land again immediately.

Yesterday he did it because of a farting tart.

Good luck.

Why the eff not just buy some when you get there instead of risking your liberty and a lot of cash?

Yup, no shortage of 1,000 Baht per gram weed shops on Samui. So leave your weed at home. Just bring your rolling papers, your grinder, your favorite rolling tray and stash canister and just a few suitcases of cash and you should be able to stay high during your trip. 😜👌🏼

Why chance it???  They can't even make up their minds if it's legal or not. It wouldn't surprise me if they made an example out of someone like you. Leave the dope at home and buy it locally.

Legal to mail or courrier weed. Growers do. Have you never ordered?

A little bit of unexpected engine trouble on the way to Samui and you might end up in an unfriendly country anyway.

It’s amazing how so many people complain about how expensive things are in Thailand.  How they are getting ripped off by even a few baht.  And can’t even afford certain things.  But they have enough money to buy weed.

Some advice on here is just plain wrong .I have been on over 50 domestic flights ,my carry on has been searched nearly everytime ,due to the fact of having my daughters ice packed medicine inside !!! Numerous funny interactions with customs over my multiple baggies of ganja ,all they want is proof from the hospital that the meds need keeping cold  and why I have the meds  ,they did not care at all about ganja !!!!!

I never heard about anybody complaining about things getting expensive. Anyway, my weed budget is in line with that of most drinkers. I don't drink at all and don't go to bars except in ganja cafes.

Please explain how it is risky?

possession is not illegal, and domestic travel with weed breaks no laws.

I'd suggest you cease advising on topics you do not understand.

Really? What do you understand that others don't? What % of THC does Mr Know-all propose to travel with while breaking no law?

One topic I understand is that I wouldn't travel with joints through airports.

As the law stand at present, yes.

Plastic screw top container, go!

Just pray the flight is not diverted to Malaysia 555

Technically, sending weed via postal

mail is a form of distribution. Yes, presumably, it’s legal for licensed growers and licensed sellers in Thailand to post weed through the postal mail.

But there are also some additional legal hurdles that apply to selling weed online. Some online sellers adhere to them, but it seems many don’t.

Thus, I’m not certain if an unlicensed individual is allowed to legally send weed through the postal mail as it could be viewed as distribution and/or selling weed online.

So that's your paranoid view .Both of Bangkok's airports smoking areas absolutely stink of weed and as I stated before customs do not care one bit about weed on domestic flights ....

You'll be staying Koh Samui at least overnight no? Ten joints would be packing way too light for me. You're allowed 7kg in your carry-on baggage alone 😆
