Small booster pump to solve poor muni water pressure

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Water pressure is so low at our place that we can't even fill an above ground water tank. The two meter lift/head is too much to ask.

I know its illegal put hypothetically speaking how could one improve water pressure from the municipal source so we can actually fill a 1500 liter tank?

Thanks

The row of shophouses where I lived had simple/common Mitsubishi pumps. That is all you need. You will need a switch in the tank to control it, as standard it is controlled by pressure.

If you have an existing pump to pump from the tank to the house then 155 watt is enough.

Don't want to spend 5,000 on Mitsubishi there is a WIZZ one on Lazada for 2,000

Put or use an underground tank.  Many people do that.  Or an alternative would be using short height tanks connected together (water will seek its own level).

Good suggestion.  If not practical to have a large underground tank, you could have a smaller, low level tank and ball valve to collect the low pressure municipal water, then use a small pump to send this water to the large, high level tank that supplies the booster pump.

We already have two 5000 liter tanks underground. Running out of space and would be limited to a 500/600 liter one. We need more of a buffer than that.

Currently checking Lazada for a small 50 watt pump to help the municipal water along. They are indeed popular judging by the many many reviews these mini-pumps have. Maybe that's what's causing the low pressure in the first place, everyone boosting the city water supply.

Since you have 10,000 litres that you can already fill then you need to pump from the tanks you already have and can fill with the current supply

It is not hypothetically wrong. It is absolutely wrong and a bad idea

As above you pump from your current in ground tanks.

I really don’t understand why you are trying to do something that is both against the water supply regulations, supremely selfish and potentially dangerous.

If you are sucking from the mains you are going to cut the supply from everyone else, suck in contaminated water and suck in dirt to mention just 3 reasons why you are prohibited from pumping directly from the mains.

We have had a similar situation for the past 8 months, had around 6 or 7 visits from the Tessabahn water truck to fill our 2 x 750 ltr tanks.

The water pressure was so p1ss poor that it couldn’t get up to anything above waist height.

My next door neighbour bought a small pump put it in one of those plastic storage boxes then pumped up into his tank ( approx 2 meters ).

We managed to control our usage by showering from a “ dustbin “ in each toilet ( although the entrance to each toilet is above the height of the water tanks we could siphon water in daily ), washing clothes and watering the garden using the poor city water pressure.

Thankfully whatever was causing the drastic drop in pressure for 8 months, we never got a satisfactory answer, has been resolved and we are back to normal, although heavy usage on a weekend still causing a drop in pressure.

Use a pump that is suitably sized. For example if you want to raise water to a second floor then assume a height 30 feet (i bar) and get a pump that delivers at least that pressure output.

We have the same problem, I installed an in-line assister pump on the incoming water pipe, we nonmale just use it for showers, and the washing machine, it is a Clinton 1/2hp pump all of 1500 baht from our local builder's merchant, works well, have had to replace the pressure switch.

No problem in sucking up dirt or anything, shower head /washing machine filler never blocked up, as we are in a rural area with a few houses, our water tower is only 500 yards up the road, other houses are not staved of water, they are all in the same problem no water pressure.

And when you turn on pump you may be drawing dirty water from their laundry pan or any supply pipe fault into the system for everyone to share.

The correct way is to install a tank and pump from the tank. What you are doing is either illegal or against the water supply regulations.

Just saw a small water pump in Mr.DIY for 1600 Baht.
