Thai 4 year Degree and Zero English?

I wonder how many (if any) English (only) speakers she prescribes for every year.

I don't really understand Top Chaoren's business model, they seem to swamp the place with shops. Mind you, pretty girls, and I do like those tight white trousers suits they wear!

Another try at eyeglasses....The gal said she was an Optometrist who spent 5 years at a University in Bangkok. To my surprise she spoke ZERO English, which is shocking to me. If Thai was the international business language, I would speak it fluently. She had all the modern equipment so I felt confident that after 30 minutes of testing, she would be able to at least prepare a decent pair of glasses for the office only. Nope. I arrived today to try on my new eyeglasses that were so substandard I was shocked. Essilor which are my current lenses were purchased in Indonesia for less than half the price. I agreed on some locally made lenses and I was assured they were as good as Essilor. that were not much cheaper and they were so poor they were impossible to accept. 1000baht down the drain. May fly to Singapore to get some.

Go to Rutnin. Possibly better than most eye care facilities in the West.

Not the place for an eye test unless you have serious problems in my opinion.

"The estimated cost of a primary general eye examination is starting from THB 4,500 (not including medication).

***This is only the estimated cost. It can be changed due to patient condition and situation."

Didn't say they were cheap. I just confirm they are tops. Also OP seems to be the sort of guy who would have a proper health cover.

I see them once a year, follow up visits are more like THB 1500 , but I pay only 10% of those bills. Remember, Thailand is now a country for people with proper health cover.

Actually, my daughter goes to a Thai University and EVERYTHING had to be done in ENGLISH including the interview.  And,

due to other reports of "poor" English, new testing was supposedly being set up.  I wonder what college this ladi obtained her degree - one of those that family money kept greasing the wheels of education I guess.  Who hires that kind of graduate?

Thats great. Good for her.

I got new long-distance (ie non-reading) specs a year ago at Bangkok Vision Center, Wattana (near Benjakiti Park). Couldn't be better.

Up steep stairs, small, friendly, spoke English, tested my eyes, discussion, laughed at my jokes, chose my frames (Essilor) from limited samples, glasses ready later that day, careful fitting, 7000฿.

One year later couldn't be happier with them.

Well, if they laughed at your jokes, I'm headed there.

If you chose to live in Thailand then learn the Thai language.

What about if you lived in Thailand, which would be even more helpful ?

You are clearly going to the wrong place.  I have had the same eye doc for 21 years.  She speaks English and dispenses excellent eye glasses.  She uses Nikon lenses... which are made in Thailand, but to Nikon QA standards.  Not dirt cheap,  but reasonable.  Looks like your attempt to scrimp has backfired!  Sorry about that.

Nothing to do with the Thai language. Its called 'Western Medicine'. You don't go to Norway to learn how to cook Thai food.

I guess your Thai must me very good then, unless you two had this conversation in a third language.

I'm still trying to connect the title with the topic. What does her education, degree and English proficiency have to do with the poor quality craftsmanship of the finished product? Was she required to read the prescription into an AI computer lens crafting machine in English?

Sorry but it just seems your title is 1 topic and your whining about high expectations and substandard results is another.

Now, since you claim to have lived here 25 years and counting, one would think the onus is on you for not having learned anything about living here. :wai:

Also kind of wonder now if her father was an Ophthalmologist. She had all of the most modern equipment you could buy. And she kept telling me about a great Doctor she knew I could visit. Well, I thought she was a Doctor...Oh well, very polite and we simply were not able to communicate, She gave me a full refund. No problem.
