Just returned from this year's motor show in Bangkok.

I quite fancied the royal enfield hunter 350cc.

At 134,000฿ looked good value for money.

My question is have anyone got any

knowledge or feedback on royal Enfield brand, pros and cons etc...

I saw it at Auto Show too. I went Thursday and went again on Friday. The only Royal Enfield I would greatly consider is the Scram411, it consistently gets impressive reviews. Yes, the new Himalayan is promising but they don't even have a price yet.

The best bikes(that I am interested in) I saw at the Auto Show were:

Royal Enfield Scram411 - 176,000 Baht

Triumph Speed 400 - 158,000 Baht

Triumph Scrambler 400x - 180,000 Baht

Honda CBR 500RR - 220,000 Baht

Honda Hornet 500 - 220,000 Baht

A couple of years ago @chrissables did a tour around Thailand on a Royal Enfield.  Following is the link to his tour and it has a link to the first part of the tour as well. He is currently on a tour with a Honda CT-125 but maybe he can give you some feedback on his experience with Royal Enfield since he did a lot of KM.

I have the Classic 350 (same engine)...great bike for the back roads with a very relaxed ride, spares and accessories are cheap and plentiful. It isn't the fastest bike in its class, but it is a joy to ride. Get in touch with your local dealer and get a test ride (all the RE dealers seem to have demo bikes).

Thanks for the feedback.. I seen a used 2023 model with less then 500km on the clock for 99k, I'm very tempted saving of over 30k.

That seems like a great deal, hopefully the owner has looked after it.   But what service would be due after 500km?

Should be in exceptional condition. I'd check fluids and brakes first and then overall body condition.

Tyres etc should still look new.

If you decide to buy then go around the bike yo ensure all nuts/screws etc are still tight.

Good luck !

I've never owned a 400/4 but I have looked at them several times.

My oldest son back in NZ has one, high spec model that red lines around 13000 rpm.  A real screamer.

But the RE is a solid bike.  Been around for years.

Twins are bad enough a  400/4  would be great, singles dumpa  dumpa  dumpa  dumpa  dumpa

4 banger.

Expensive.

Not a RE thing.

So believe it.

Can't really ride a 4x anywhere near to the performance designed.

Except the track.

Which would be real fun.

Honda makes a 4x/650. ? CBR

See them at track days.

And surprisingly the CBR650F is not that expensive.  A 10yr old model can be had for about 150k baht.

That's a lot of bike for the money and a real smooth ride.

i have owned three Enfields, a Himalayan, an interceptor, and a bullet 350 reborn . The 350 has the same engine as the Hunter and so far the bullet is my favorite bike. Everything I need and nothing I don't. The bullet is no speedster but thats not what I want.  It is a great ride and very planted on the road. It is also great two up. I have had a couple of minor issues but nothing I couldn't take care of myself. I love the bike and recommend it. Just make sure you break it in slowlyimage.jpeg.34120b2953854d15e05d0eae632f97c8.jpeg

Perhaps you can comment with many RE bike experiences, I was looking at most of their bikes like in your photo or Himalayan or Scram 411 which are air cooled and their exhaust seems to tilt to the right side, right out of the engine, and then go down along side and in front of the right leg and then under it...

I wondered would that not cause a lot of heat specially at slow speed or heavy traffic, which are directed at front of the leg and also under it...!? Do we need some really thick pants and armoured boots to counter this..., anything flimsy, or God forbid short and sandals could basically make a roasted leg after a trip in these tropical countries...!!!?

You can cover the pipe with exhaust wrap.

I have the 350 Classic and I could ride all day in shorts and trainers without a problem (I don't), but you don't get roasted even in heavy traffic...unlike my Triumph where any longer than 10min in shorts is enough to fry your leg once the cooling fan kicks in.

I have put about 120k on the three Enfields and heat from the engine and exhaust was never a problem. Crocs and shorts the whole way.

I had the Interceptor 650 for over a year to get my feet wet riding a bigger bike. Run to ride, on the open road with wind gusts the Interceptor gets squirrely because it's fairly light. Anyway I sold it for a cheap 160K baht and got a used triumph.

Unexpected comment about the 'lightness' of the RE Interceptor 650 because many commentators I've read say it's heavy at about 200+ kg. In fact, REs in general seem to be viewed as 'heavy' machines.

I've had a 650 CGT for 4 years now and that's apparently slightly lighter than the Interceptor. Coupling that with my own light weight should mean it's even more susceptible to wind gusts yet I've never found that to be the case. Maybe I just have a higher tolerance level for wind effects.

I'm not an expert by any means on why the Interceptor was feeling the cross wind or I was. The Triumph Bobber I have now is very low and never a problem with the wind. I personally think it could also be the style and not the weight.
