Cash Advance at Bangkok Bank problem

Featured Replies

Went to Bangkok Bank to use my Schwab debit card for a Cash Advance only to be told that my card no longer worked in their system. I have used this card before with no hassles. Has anyone else encountered this problem and is there a fix for it?

If there has been a previous thread regarding this topic please leave a link. I searched and could not find one.

Have you tried using the card in an ATM to make a withdrawal?  If that works, then it's employee error.

(Since Schwab refunds 100% of all ATM fees, I'm wondering why you bother with the "cash advance" route when you can just withdraw from the ATM free of charge.  Your money, your choice, of course.)

Did they even try the card or just wave you away with that excuse?

I did not try the ATM machine as I like to withdraw one large amount rather than many smaller ATM machine withdrawals

Yes, I believe they actually tried the card.

I would try the card in an ATM, if it does actually function you have pilot bank-employee error, if it doesn't then it's time to talk to your bank.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I believe they stopped doing cash advance on debit cards. So maybe they told you the truth.

Btw, doesn't Schwab reimburse ATM fees? Why did you need cash advance in the first place?

Yes, it is a debit card. Do you have a link to this information?

Yes Schwab reimburses, but I find the cash advance most convenient and can get large sums of money rather than withdrawing many many times from the ATM machine

It's a word of mouth

Maybe you could do a one-time exception to your rule just for test purpose?

I find it unwise to “abuse” the Schwab ATM refund policy by using it too much. I don’t want to temp them to change it.

It seems BKK bank now limit cash advances to 100K ฿.  You may also have to check with several BKK branches before finding one that will even try to do it.

A few reasons.... I usually want much more than the ATM limit.  If I do several ATM withdrawals a couple of annoyances can occur.... I can empty the ATM of large bills and/or I end up with too much cash in my pockets.  I then have to go to the CDM or the teller to deposit the excess.  I really don't like to abuse Mr. Schwab for $6+ for each ATM withdrawal when I can spend the same amount of time and end up with the money directly into my Thai bank account.  I see no need to give Thai banks $6+ for each ATM transaction.  The bank already makes a small fee via the VISA Interchange Reimbursement fee.
